Dogs don’t go in the cab for me, they love cruising around in summer Months in the bed of the truck heads out either side (bedmat for traction) winter in the suv

Does anyone else here have a dog who does NOT like riding in the car? Our dog was fine when she was a pup but somewhere along the line she became terrified of being in any vehicle. I'm not exactly sure what her fear is but I suspect it's partly her stability - sliding side to side during turns or falling forward back during accel/braking. She has bad joints so she can't just stand up and compensate as well as any normal dog. And I think it's also partly her being scared of what's going on around us, outside the vehicle - specifically large trucks and noises.

We've tried all sorts of different configurations in different vehicles with pretty much zero success. I think the only thing we haven't tried is completely confining her into something that isolates he physically and visually. @Arrieta578 post above about the hunting dog box makes me think that might be something worth trying.

I'd appreciate any help from anyone who has had a similar situation.

Only a truly sick individual leaves his dog when he goes camping.

My dog is welcome everywhere, including my truck. She’s a member of the family and that’s how she’s treated.

The back seat doggie diaper from Amazon works great for us. Still trying to deal with the hair but I plan on driving the truck until the wheels fall off so whatever. But occasionally one finds their way up front...

    My mini-schnauzer rides shotgun.

Although, he is pretty uneasy in a vehicle. If the road is smooth and straight, he settles and relaxes. Otherwise, bumpy or choppy or corners or accel/decel......he is uneasy.

Nice thing, he doesn't jump around like a Mexican Jumping Bean or try to get on my lap.

So glad he is a non-shedding breed. :D

Stu commandeered the back of this truck the day we brought it home. He had been riding up front with me in my Ranger or more often, in the bed under the shell. I bought good seat covers right away but also this bed hammock and after having maybe 4 of these, this is by far the absolute best one. It came from Gundogsupply.com and is super heavy duty yet super soft material and the best thing, out of many, is it releases fur/hair so easily with the vacuum. No going over it over and over to get it clean. StuHammock.jpg

Also, for those interested in more protection, I'm using the Weathertech door guards that slide into the window rail. Keeps the slobber and potential toenail scratches from beating up your panels. Works well. As seen in the background here.

Wolfie LOVES going for a ride in any vehicle, but especially the truck. He rides in the bed(camper shell as you can see) but we have to open the sliding windows, so he can "check in" with us and feel like he's part of the gang.

I gave up on the side panel versions because the first thing to shit the bed are the zippers, then the rest of the hammock. Weathertechs suit that purpose well. That hammock I have is a PetSafe. It was another brand name but became sought after and got bought up by PetSafe.
