This was weird. I got an email from my Toyota dealership, stating I was due soon for service and provided the mileage on my car. How found this really odd because my last service was at 28,500 miles and haven't been back since. How do they know my mileage? Do they have remote access to my car's computer?

I'm guessing that since your truck is an '01, you've got over 100K on the clock? They could've looked it up on CarFax or AutoCheck...

Also, thanks to advances in technology, everybody knows everything about everybody...

EXAMPLE: My mom went to a college in Ohio for like a semester during her freshman year before switching to another college in Virginia. She never made contact with that Ohio college again.

About forty years later, we have lived in four different states. Somehow, this college is still able to track us down and send literature to our current address...

nah, it's all based off the average driver. they send automated emails out once they think a car has the mileage needed for a service.

Gotta lil story for ya wife's girlfriend call to state during the convocation between the two women that she and her husband who own a new Dodge Charger had taken out a certain kind of insurance based on the mileage used to the charger local driving only. They make a trip to our state and home again then take it to the dealer for it's regular schedule oil change and service only to get a call from the insurance company a few days later that the mileage to the Charger is getting close to the insurance contract they had signed and may what to renegotiate it . when the insurance company was asked a few Q n A's bout where they obtained the information on the Charger they refused to say how they got said info from. State was Missouri btw.

Another reason why nobody but USAA will ever insure my Tacoma, and any vehicles I own in the future!

I remember reading a story a few years about a Shady Rental Car Agency sneaking something in the Contract about charging you a fee if you exceed the Speed Limit and were pulling the info when you went to turn the car in and shafting you on the bill.

I saw a video that a TV station in California did about a rental car company that would charge you if you didn't have the receipt for topping off the gas tank, even if the car obviously had a full tank of gas!

Also, look up the Greyhound Bus "gift ticket fee"...
