I have the same color truck, could you send me a pic with the shell you have on yours? Does it drive differently with the shell? And how do you like? Want to get some more info before I buy. Thanks

2011 4x4 Access is my 1st 4x4 and my 4th 4banger Toy. All have been strong. I still use my '95 2wd to haul firewood out of the mountains 1/2 cord at a time ( bed & shell full). Haven't done much 4 wheeling yet but love the truck. I agree with PSJ "Probably one of the best 4x4's available stock. The 4cyl is a great motor teamed up with the 5spd for off roading. Been a winning combo for many years" although not sure how he knows since his is 2wd.
    Try it you'll like it!

I have not owned a 2nd gen 4x4 Toyota, but have owned other Toyota trucks, and many of my surf buddies back in the day also had 4x4 toy trucks and we went everywhere in Baja, and always made it home! We never worried about making our own trail knowing the Toyotas would get us there... and they ran fine on the low octane fuel of Mexico. Proven 4x4's for many years, and I am assuming the new trucks are even better in some ways...
However, I would love to find a pre 85 4 cyl 4x4 with the straight axle hidden in some garage covered but in mint condition! :D

Just more susceptible to high winds. I have always had a shell on them (4th baby Toy) and the extra secure dry space is nice. New one has a higher top so we can sleep in it.

ok. i use my tacoma off road every day. its a part of life. and in the winter its wat saves my life.

pros: small, maneuverable, lightweight: once u get it on top of some snow or mud and utilize momentum u can generally stay on top for good distance.

easier truk to turn around...and can get more places than larger truk, for example..switchback turns that r too gnarly for a longer vehicle.

also, plenty of power in the 2.7, all u need, ive routinely hauled 2500lbs in the bed..not towing people.

4 low is a beast. i gave my truk 3.5 inches of lift, threw some 33 boggers on it for the deep snow, mud conditions and she was good to go....i tear through miles and miles of road w 2 foot of snow...once the snow gets past 3 foot, i gota stay on top..otherwise skid plate turns in to plow and u gota dig out.

any more questions class ? ;)...o yes,

ofcourse, the cons: the truk dont weigh shit...which can be good...but also bad when u r talkn about off roadn...load the bed with snow or dirt ...camper shell helps, but not enough to help sink the wheels down...bed full of dirt does the trik.

another con: your last rig will become inferior in the blink of an eye

..yes, a rear diff would b nice,

but ALWAYS have a winch ...

If I could figure out how to get a pic off my phone, we would be in business. But technical issues r the last thing on my list of chores... too busy building a homestead... at some point it will get posted tho.

3" rough country suspension lift, hella 500 ff's on the bumper, blacked out badges and a 1st gen TOYOTA decal on the tail gate, realtree camo seat covers and steering wheel cover, 1 boss 10" sub under driver seat. Cherry bomb extreme 2.5" in. Pioneer head unit. Trd off road decals and an butt load of decals on my window's for personality.
my 4 banger does nasty work on Oregon Inlet, NC barely have to air down. but the 5 speed can be a hassle when it doesn't wanna go slow but iv'e also been hunting in mud almost to the doors and it does a great job my suspension is still stock also.

I find it a little under powered in 4H but bawlzy in 4L. Great multi purpose truck. One day I do 200 miles for work, the next a load it with tools or go camping. Plenty of power to haul 3,000 lb trailer locally. Does everything I need.

I love mine. Surprised the crap out of me the first time I took it offroad. It's taken me through everything I've tried so far. Even 2WD surprises me out there.

The only vehicles I've taken offroad before this were my 07 and 09 Wranglers. I was thinking this might not be as good offroad because it has a 4 cylinder instead of a V6, but overall I think this Tacoma is definitely better. I mostly do prerunning and deep sandy stuff, but if I were into crawling I think I would still take my Tacoma.
