I found a used one locally but he doesn't think he has the clamps and the nearest dealer is 400 miles away, anybody have a picture?

Also how bad will it look to have a black cap on a pyrite mica truck? Paint will run about $400

    Thanks,
    Ron

there are little clamps that hook to the in bed channel
Just like a piece of channel steel welded to a nut like you'd use on threaded rod.
    Sorry its dark out still.

400 bucks? How much snugtops go for in your area? Yea I think that combination would be pretty bad. Black and dark grey. I had a silver on white... that was okish.

He is asking $600, I hoped to get him down to $500 but with no clamps and having to get it painted I might go with a new ARE color matched for $900

    Thanks,
    Ron

my cap mounts with these little blocks that attach to the rail on the inside of the bed. if i had my truck here i would take pictures. they do not use clamps just a bolt and the block.
(not sure if snug top is the same mine is an Leer)
black would look OK in my opinion but i prefer a matched canopy.

my snugtop has tabs that stick out on the bed rail (part of the fiberglass) with holes in them, then ya bolt through it and into a nut that has a piece of like 2 inch piece 45 degree channel which hooks into the bed cleat system.

900 bucks is a heck of a lot for a used cap.

I think I paid about that for a full size cap shipped to hawaii.

that is pretty much how mine is. the fiber glass sticks out then you have these blocks that are threaded and you just run the bolt through the fiberglass down to the block and tighten end of story. i paid $1100 for my leer with some extras new already color matched.

I thought it might look OK as well being that the soft best tops are black and that looks OK.

I dunno, $900 is the cheapest I could find locally for a new color matched cap. Eagle's and Jason's were $1100, the bottom end ARE is $900 but the Snugtop is a lot better IMHO.

    Thanks,
    Ron

snugtop is the crappiest cap I've ever owned (got mine for $150 used, which seems to be low average round here for used) ARE was definitely the best.

BUT.. they're all just fiberglass and aluminum crap when it comes down to it. DO NOT shop a cap by brand. They're all the same, i've had em. People are comparing low end model to high end model probably. Some trucks/bed sizes don't offer all models, so people get confused in why the "cheapest" snugtop is prettier than the cheapest leer. They're not the same level.

Yea, just walked out and checked out my snug top. It seems homemade compared to my old ARE, and even my GM snugtop. No standard. Never heard of jason's.. but anyone with room to put in a mold seems to make caps.

and BTW, my truck will hit bump stops if I go "normal" speed over a speed table with the top on. Have to get that spring tsb done. But still, its using like half the payload on such a non commercial truck.
