How does this undercarriage look?

Hi all, I am looking at getting a gen 1 and unfortunately it is a couple of hours away from me so I am at the mercy of online pictures. Do you guys think the attached pics look good or does this look like someone just plastered something all over the undercarriage to cover up any signs of rust? Obviously trusting a dealer I don't know is a tall task. The dealer has no idea if the frame was ever replaced, but says it is in great condition underneath with no rust.

Also, how hard is it to find a supercharger for these? Is the Magnuson S/C the way to go or are there better options? It looks like Magnuson is still making their S/Cs, is anyone else, or will I have to search the classifieds?

Thanks for any and all help.

    "Great condition, no rust"

There is 100% cover-up on there. The second picture you can even see the "plaster" coming through and rust showing again. That big washer looking thing is not supposed to be black...it should be washer colored and smooth...lol
Even the diff looks coated in...whatever it is.

It could be fine, or you could be fighting rust the rest of its life. If you're worried at all, I'd stay away

They undecorated the shit out of that. And there not even showing pictures to the usual bad areas around the spring hangers and shock mounts.
I'd consider it a pass but if you just can't let it go take a flashlight and crawl all over it, and be ready to walk away.

The dealer can't tell you if the frame has been replaced??? Wtf... run that vin# through the Toyota website, carfax should even have that info I would think. I am very skeptical on what a dealer says, i would take it for a independent inspection.
As the the above post mentioned... that is some coating on that frame and everything. Could be pristine af! Or could be half rusted through. Only a hammer will know

Looks suspect to me for sure OP. All of the material build up is exactly where it would be if it were rust- although since it's just a pic . Cant say for sure.

Looks like they dipped that thing in undercoating. That's a total coverup. coating like that, even as a preventative measure is crap (they rust from the INSIDE).

When in doubt break out the hammer and start knocking around the trouble areas of the frame. If seller doesn't want you hitting on his tuck, GTFO.

    I'd be suspicious already, though...

Mine looks "somewhat" like that. During the initial undercoating recall in 2000s dealerships applied undercoating like that (sprayed). I ran my truck through the Tacoma Owner website and can see the date it was done by the dealership. Mine is completely fine but there is overspray on various under carriage parts. You need to hit it with a hammer to find out whats going on.

The coating looks wet almost. Reminds me of fluid film.

Thanks for the information guys and confirming how I felt.

I ran the VIN in my Toyota App and it said it did not have the recall done for the rust in the tire carrier area, no mention of if the Frame had been done or not.

It is an '01 with a manual transmission, asking price is $8k for those wondering.

Mine was sprayed by Toyota as well but they only did inside/outside of the frame, no coating on the suspension or axle housing.

They must be asking 8k to get their money back from the excessive amount of undercoat laid on that truck
