How exactly is my rear lift being created?

    Hi everyone,

I'm not too mechanically inclined yet but in pursuit of knowledge of my truck I was curious on the rear lift was created/works.

I have icon front coil overs, I know those are adjustable and create the lift in the front. I have downey 41 inch leaf spring set (i think, but they're for sure bigger than the stock leafs), and bilstein (not sure about the model) shocks in the back. Would the leaf springs be able to create 3+ inch's of lift? I'm not how much lift I have exactly but I can measure how much clearance I have or post a pic if that helps.

A leaf spring system can be lifted by adding blocks, adding leafs, lengthening the rear frame brackets, and/or re-arcing the leafs. Yours likely has more leafs and possibly re-arcing.

Leaf springs create lift in the rear. Are your Downey springs on the truck already? Taking measurements from the center of the hub to the bottom of the body at the top of the wheel well can usually give you a rough idea of the lift your vehicle has.

Generally there are better ways than others to create lift if desiring good performance. Adding leaves and re-arching them are better than blocks or longer rear shackles. But there are whole range of options for everyone to choose from based on a lot of things specific to their preferences.

:)jump up and down on your bumper, if the truck doesnt bounce, i mean nothing, you have a leaf lift.
    if not, its prob blocks.

    You have heavy duty shackles
    Heavy duty leaf springs
And your ubolts are flipped upside down.

So do you have less lift than you want or more lift than you want?

You don’t have a block lift - only taller springs and some aftermarket shackles.

What are ubikts? When i googled them they were just bolts so im not sure if those are the right thing.

So are the leafs creating the lift right, longer leafs more lift or how does that work?

I just want to know what I have since I'm not the first owner. How easy would it be to create more lift with this setup tho? I eventually want to put 35s on

You'll typically need to cut away 1/3 of the firewall to fit 35s in the front. See: https://www.tacomaworld.com/posts/26869628

And that's with skinny 35x10.5-17 tires. Typical 35x12.5 will require even more cutting.

Besides tire width, you must also consider wheels offset and backspace.

The leafs and long shackles are creating the lift.

"ubikts" is a typo, should be "U-bolts". Stock configuration has the U-bolts point down, and shocks bolted to the U-bolt plate. Your U-bolts have been flipped for more ground clearance, but required new mounts welded to the axle for shocks. That also means your shocks may not be the same measurements as stock shocks, both in length and in bushing eyelet diameters.

Does anyone know if the rear shocks are actually able to work as intended that close together?
