When the last gas "crisis" happened here, i had my tank low for the fuel pump recall.

I didn't know there was a crisis going on. When i left work i was going to get 3 gallons to get me to my appointment the next day.

By the time i found gas i pumped in 20.6 gallons, called the dealer and cancelled the appointment.

So i know you can still go on a half gallon and i had around 9 miles or so left before shut down.

    Don't recommend.

I’ve gone 21.2 on empty. Pretty sure felt hesitation when I made left turn into pump. I’d bank on about 18 miles under normal conditions. I hardly ever go below 1/4 tank.

I've run it down to "please refuel" a few times. Usually on the way home from a trip and I've calculated I had enough to make it. A couple times it was close but still had around 1.5 gals in the reserve so probably could go another 30 miles.

The second one below was pretty cool. Drove from Ogden Utah back to Fort Collins non-stop on a single tank. I planned to fill up in Laramie but ended up skirting the city and didn't see any gas stations. Kept going and watched my "miles to empty" click down and kept "doing the math" to see if I was going to make it. Drove super easy. I don't recall exactly but it took around 19 gals to fill it that time.

80 liters is 21.13 gallons. I doubt the filler neck holds more than a pint(.125 gallons). Did you buy lottery tickets too?

When I was a kid I had a 72 cutlass that loved gas. I was broke and would try to get the last drops out of the station’s pump hose. I ran it out several times and knew exactly how far below E it would go. Studdering and coasting into the station to get a couple more gallons was not unusual. Those were the days.

Made a choice to stretch it a little too far towing, spent the next 16 clenching miles sweating it a bit but I retained my title of never having ran out of fuel.

I never run my truck down to the limit but in another lifetime I inherited a '78 Toyota Corona wagon and at some point the fuel guage would go down to 1/2 and then the needle would just drop off to E, so I pretty much had to keep an eye on the trip meter once it hit 1/2 a tank and guestimate when I needed to gas up. Well, one day heading west on the 210 in Pasadena I guestimated wrong and it just died at 70mph on the freeway. Thinking more quickly then than I might today, I was able to jump two lanes into the Lake Ave offramp and coast all the way up and around the corner to the gas station there across the street from Orel Herscheiser's church and came to a rest right in front of the gas pump. I've decided not to test my luck that way anymore because I doubt that feat could ever be duplicated.

Impressive! But why are you putting the expensive fuel in?

It’s kinda like pulling exact change out of your pocket. It happens, but relative to the number of times it doesn’t it’s a losing proposition.

In my 2nd gen in traffic I had a guy signal that my tire was going flat. I was about 8 miles from home and on a highway wih a ton of gas stations ( no service), I pulled in, filled the tire, that had an obvious puncture and drove a mile to the next station and again filled up, did that about three times until I got home to my local guy who pulled the tire, fixed the puncture. I was not in the mood to drop the spare and change it myself after a long day at work.

How far below E I can go is one piece of information I hope I never find out. I'm a coward and always fill up at 1/4 tank.

Reminds me of "coasting" through my neighboorhood in a 74 Montego, ignoring stop signs.. all for the love better gas mileage. Even lost a damn hubcap rounding a corner too fast once. :D

edit: actually it was a 74' w/351 Windsor.

reflecting on those years, as a teenager, I have no fucking idea how I ever parked that thing without hitting something.
