Yeah.. .towing really take a toll on MPGs.. that's the one thing I miss about my f250 Diesel... same mileage empty or towing 8000 lbs. I guess it would be the same if Toyota put a diesel in the tacoma.

More interstate driving mixed in with the second fillup yielded 20.8 mpg. Filled up at 322 miles - before the light came on, and the tank took 15.48 gallons. I always stop filling when the pump stops itself.

So far I've been a really good boy with a light foot on the gas pedal. Now it's time to start having a little fun. :D

Coming back from Sonoma to Calgary I got 780 KMs out of one tank. Going through Montana late at night and couldn't find a gas station.....thought I was going to run out on the highway....gas warning light was shining for ever. Finally got to Billings and filled up....took a 1/2 litre more than the manual capacity states....must have been running on the fuel line fumes... The gas mileage was great on the highway running at 120 KPH average with nothing in the box.

I only get 250 on a tank if im lucky how are you guys getting 400? there must be something wrong with my truck i have stock tires n minimal performance mods i should be getting better mileage, right?

Any suggestion as to what might be the problem? i had my fluids n spark plugs changed recently so its not that. Maf or O2 sensors??

How did you dig this one up? Last time this thread was active my truck was just a glimmer in toyota's eye!

400+ to a tank is *usually* a combination of driving habits + ultragauge/scangauge, NOT city driving, 245 treadwidth tires, synthetic fluids (dino 80w90 KILLS morning mileage, I had to get that out of there), premium fuel, warm weather, and although not 100% required, the auto tranny.

When I first got the truck I'd get gas lights at 290-310 miles. Now with just making sure everything is working as it should (alignment, brakes, so on) its always good until 360, usually 370ish, sometimes higher, as long as the snow isn't flying.

    edit: I'll play
    1) 387 mi
    2) 30 mi

Just bought the truck, only on second tank of gas (1st tank sucked down VERY quickly as mentioned in an earlier post, thought I was doomed )

So far 320 miles and still 1/4 tank to go, hoping to get 375 before next fill. Over half of the miles were HWY.

    Very pleased!

I get nervous when the low fuel light comes on and start looking for a gas station. Most I ever went was like 25 miles with the light on. These numbers were normal for me get get without trying. If I try now I can 350+ with lift and bigger tires.

New record my last tank -- the light came on at 414 miles, filled at 435.

I win even with the trashbox tranny, lol

mixed driving I get about 250 before the light comes on. I think it's the 6spd. Autos get better MPG on the taco. Quick fill up calculations give me about 15.5 mpg avg. I've never bothered to check long term mpg. I'm 3" lift with 285/75/16s.

*ninja edit: I baby it around town. Try to shift around 2k, anything over 35-40 MPH I'm cruising in 6th. 70-75mph freeways.

    2. ~20 before I get real nervous

    city/county road (50-55 mph) combo

Results also depend on where I fill up.
