A friend of mine alluded to the same thing. He had his 2001 frame replaced several years ago. He thought that if I had some documentation showing that the corrosion suddenly got worse after the undercoating, I might have a case for replacement (possibly in spite of the fact that I’m beyond the 15 year mark).

As I understand the CRC coating extends the frame replacement.

What undercoat accelerates the rusting process? Unless its like ziebart or some rubberized stuff i fail to see how it would happen.

The part we can see shows that frame is dead. What we don’t see may be worse. Driving that is dangerous to you and other drivers. I wouldn’t drive that around the block.

Depending on the rest, you can buy the section for repair.

Having the CRC coating applied extends the coverage TO 12 years. Don't waste your time trying to get help from Toyota if you are a day over this time line.

12 years from when the CRC was applied? I was under the impression it was 12 years from when the truck was manufactured.

Well the truck made it 17 years, and it was paid off for 15 of those. I can’t complain too much about that. It really doesn’t owe me a damn thing. The tougher pill to swallow is the $50k price tag and 4-6 month wait for a new one.

If it’s the original noxudol garbage that was used then that was the stuff where dealers weren’t prepping the frame to the T like they were supposed to prior to coating and they just caked it on over rust. Noxudol is a wax-based coating and I saw photos where they caked it on pretty thick as people got their trucks back on here and were showing off the hack spray jobs dealers were doing.

Probably killed frames faster and hid everything until it flaked off and left a perf exposed like what OP has going on. It’s probably one reason that Toyota moved to a different coating/that white icing shit.

A few OE parts from fancy trucks
12 years from date put in service, not manufactured.

IE when it was first registered.

Generally only makes a few months difference, but it is an important one for those on the edge.

From a time-value and return-on-investment perspective, it wouldn’t be worth my time. I don’t think folks are exactly going to be paying top dollar for 17 year old 250,000 mile parts, and the amount of time I’d put into a part out would probably be equal to getting paid $1.50/hr for my time. I’ll probably take the $4,500 trade in offer and run.

Wow! A celeb makes a visit.
For those of you who do not know @BenWA the OP of this thread was one of the early pioneers responsible for initiating development of the front differential bushing for our trucks back in 2011 and creator of the bushing megathread.
    Hat's off to you BenWa....
