How much do I need trim off of my fenders to avoid buckling when off roading? I'm running 285s. Could I just trim 2" of the top of the well and be done?

Anyone? I know plenty of TW guys have done it. I work at a dealership and one of the body shop guys said he would do it for $150.

Maybe I'm out of the loop on 285s.. But I've never heard of having to trim fenders for 285s.. 295s and 305s maybe, 315s absolutely.

You dont need to trim them fender on 285. Only thing you need to look for is the front mud flap and the inner plastic for tire rubbing. Do full lock and look. When you drive and do full lock you can also hear them rubbing.

Get some 2x4 and nail them together. Leaving a bit out per 2x4 so your truck can climb. Now you can see wheres its rubbing since your flexing ;)

I ran 285s with 1.25 wheel spacers and tore the fender flare off and smashed the fender. I had to cut two inches off to get rid of the damage. Most people dont wheel like I do though. I had to remove the wheel spacers. Now with the cab mount chop, no fender liners, the pinch weld folded, no fender flares, and 2 inches off the fenders I bearly ever rub offroad. But im going 35s soon. not 315's but 35's

I don't have any rubbing on flat ground. My question was regarding rubbing the fenders when fully stuffed.

Mademan925, thank you! That's the info I was looking for. So you cut 2" all the way around?

like I said. Flex it and you will see what you need to do and or cut.

Just because someone else cut theirs due to their habit of offroading does not mean you have to cut yours.

I cut 2.5" out of my fenders just in case and if I ever wanted to move up to 35's I could. I also like the look. I'm running 285/70/17's right now. Haven't had any issues after cutting them.
