Hmm....Yeah. Thats strange. I cant remember what my gearing is, but I spin a 21 pitch prop. IIRC, its a 14x21. Seems to give a great hole shot, and top end.

Sounds to me like you could use more pitch! is the ratio engine:eek:utput or vise versa.... so your output isn't as fast right? i borrowed a higher pitched prop from a friends boat, just changed it in the water, and took for a drive and loved it. could try that before you drop $$

Yeah I've got good holeshot with a light load.

That's what I'm thinking to but it could just as well be my tach and I probably could get more top end if I stayed wot longer and trimmed it out ideally but I don't want to hurt it if it's really running that high. I've only done like a 10 second run at wot. In all honesty though I don't care too much about another 5 mph but more so about the boat running in the right rpm range.

The engine can handle WOT for a long time. Ive been at WOT for over 10 mins at a time. Hard to stay longer, as I may end up beached. The lakes out here arent that long.

Even with my higher pitch i can get right on plane with 10 people + camping gear... no thats not legal. but the easiest way to get 10 people and camping gear out to a nice little island in the bay. the hydrofoil makes a big difference.... especially turning, can basically be on its side at full throttle without cavitating

I know they are made for it but I don't want to be over revving it for too long if the tach is correct.

Damn. That must be scary until you get used to it.

My boat mechanic told me that running the boat just shy of wide open is the best place to run an outboard. That way the gas/oil mix burns completely and doesn't leave carbon deposits in the engine.

I have basically the same boat as Chris 4x4 its a couple years older and about a foot and 1/2 longer. I got it up to 45 with a four blade ski prop. I added a hydrofoil stabilizer and lost a mph or two but it rides a hell of a lot better.
