How good are S&B air intakes?

I got both and love it! Bought the borla muffler off Amazon, kept my factory exhaust.

 

K&N (as well as this) oil is just vegetable oil with red food coloring. The cleaner is just dishsoap solution. Nothing more.

 

The stock box is a CAI designed by Toyota engineers. Why is this better?

 

Has two inlet ports. The stock one into the side fender and a large one in front that is positioned just behind the grill.

I'm pushing 50, I like things quiet unless race car. This truck ain't that.

 

I just don't understand the point of drawing more attention to myself driving around. I want to drive down your street and you won't even notice when I pass by

 

With just the intake no difference in sound unless you get on it. When added a borla muffler… then it got louder. But just the intake gave the truck a very noticeable increase in horse power and about 3 mpgs

I have the Dry Filter set-up, I've had it for probably around 20K miles. I've cleaned it off twice since then with an air compressor. There is a noticeable difference in noise in the higher RPM's and the torque kicks in for a bit. By my house the freeway entrance is at an incline and you really have to step on it to merge. It roars that's for sure. For whatever reason the front ram air inlet tube would not fit snug so I left it off and capped the hole for it.

 

what is the benefit of a paper filter verse oiled? Besides not having to oil it…. Any performance advantage?

Sb is probably one of the best aftermarket options because it keeps the factory fender inlet and seals off the hot air from the engine bay like the oem design. You really will just notice nice induction sound with intakes, maybe some placebo butt dyno effects too. If you’re like me you can also do the ghetto version which is the stock air box with hps intake tube, trd flow accelerator, k&n dry synthetic filter(oil free) charcoal filter delete and lower silencer delete
