We had some last night, but it was nothing like the weather guys predicted. They said 4, we maybe got one. The little we did get never really hit the ground, it's been blowing around since it started falling. We've got 2 foot drifts from an inch of snow, wtf? It also doesn't help with how cold it is... right now it's 8 and dropping.

I take back what I said earlier... I got legitimately stuck on some ice on Friday. I was pulling into Sonic and their driveway has a slight hill on it. Nothing serious, just me being a dipshit. I had a friend with me and I saw there was still some snow on the hill (most of ours was melted by this point). I gassed it a little around the turn and the rear end came all the way around on me so I was sideways on the hill. I backed up and tried to get pointed the right way, couldn't get going. Then, I tried to back up to get pointed the right way, no luck. I rocked it a few times and couldn't get anywhere, gotta love that open diff. One wheel was on dry pavement the entire time. I ended up having to back over the neighboring apt. complex's lawn to get out. I got a good run at it and finally made it up. Kind of embarrassing. Maybe it'll be better when I get some new rubber, I'm waiting for these tires to be completely used up before I change to some new wheels and tires (hopefully).

My truck does pretty good, I just hate my Tire's! anything over 4-5"s of snow and the BFG A/T's suck ass! they pack easy and dont clean out well, so they become like slicks. But I can still make it up and down our hill/driveway with a little spin. I think I will be getting Hankook MT's next time. They have awsome ratings in the white stuff!

Had a '95 2wd and pulled over when an ambulance was behind me. I couldn't have been more than a wheel width into a plowed berm and was stuck there for 5 minutes rocking back and forth. 10 years later, I now have a '05 4wd and drive through these same snow berms. :)

Monday mornings commute was interesting......small town I cut through to get to my "Mack Office" road crew slept in.....Black ice and frozen snow pack gave the "Yota" a workout...Never broke a "spin" and stayed in 2wd the whole time( still need to put my "Sand Box in)....Love my automatic ;)

I have never had this truck NOT get me to work even during the height of a storm BUT I am looking at replacing the XT's with either Firestones or Kumho's......Winter into spring will bring new adventures;).

I thought the same thing! For the last few weeks, I've been looking at everyone's sig lines "shopping" for wheels. The ones I like I find on google and bookmark. I really like the "holey" wheels like yours. You're right under my address bar :D

Here in Eastern Washington we got a little snow and ice rain. I was slidding all over the place in 2wd put 4wd no problem. We got more snow so I put some concete blocks in the bed about 200lbs did not need 4wd all day.

be careful with them concrete blocks, cause if you get in a head on collision, whatever is in the back, is coming through the cab:eek:

People forget to secure that load of blocks/tree stump/sand bags, etc. that they use for weight.

In an accident, they keep coming forward and can take your head off.

I've owned 4X4 trucks since my 1st in 1969. It was a 1963 IH Scout. Best truck I've ever owned for getting around. Never stuck. I might be moving sideways but never stuck.
I attributed it to the fact it had tall skinny tires (6.00X16).
Skinny tires don't look as cool but they dig down to the surface and grab.
I had Dick Cepek big wide tires on my 1974 Blazer (4-6 MPG gas hog) and got stuck the very 1st time I took it into the snow. Heck, it had full-time 4WD and posi rear end! I still got stuck.

4WD is a help in bad weather, you still have to go with the road conditions.

While on the Interstate in SD, a 4X4 Toyota passed me. Temps were 38-40, rainy and seemed like it "might" freeze.
He passed but as he was getting in the right-hand lane, I kept seeing more of the passenger door. He went side-ways, wheels caught the plowed snow and the truck rolled 3 times, landing on the wheels. (It still ran.) He had a rollbar and was belted in. Cab was crushed but the rollbar saved him.
    Road was covered in ice!
Funny.... when he got out, he said "Dang, I just bought this truck an hour ago."
You have to slow for the conditions!

    I use 2WD unless I need 4WD to move. I figure if I can go a decent speed, I don't need 4WD.
Using 4WD, you need shifting snow/sand/something underneath to keep the differential from binding up. It needs slippage.

    1963 IH Scout w/plow
    1972 IH Scout w/plow
    1974 Blazer
    1981 Toyota 4X4
    1985 Toyota 4X4 (still have)
1989 Land Cruiser (still have w/60K)
    1992 Toyota 4X4
    2001 Tacoma 4X4 (still have)

^Gotta love that SD weather. We've driven through some pretty crazy stuff up there, the Suburbans have never let us down (the Taco doesn't go on road trips).

You must have a pretty cool girlfriend. Most girls would be offended by that.

"Hey, hop out and get in the back"
    "Why?"
"I need some weight back there to get going"
