Recently bought an 06 2.7L, super low mileage but it hadn't been driven much in the past couple years. I've heard the best performance upgrade is a heavy foot but I'm scared I'll blow something up, not literally but you get what I mean. The water pump and fuel pump already gave out, so should I be worried if I want to floor it and drive with some enthusiasm?

You bought a reliable truck, not a race car.

Fear not, the little 2.7L loves to rev. You shouldnt have anything to worry about putting your foot down

Have fun as long as you can fix it. If you have to pay someone it gets expensive.

Race truck? Waiting on a set of Camburg UCA’s, King Coilovers and associated parts. It was all supposed to be in stock, should start arriving this week.

My daily freeway onramp is uphill and I'm always a little tentative when getting up to speed, just wanted to double check! That being said...maybe I could make it a racer. Ever seen aero on a tacoma?? Jk jk jk jk

Personally I would drive it normally for a week or two, change all the fluids and then let 'er rip. Why did the water pump and fuel pump fail at such low mileage?

Not sure why they failed. The water pump had a blown out gasket and the pump just wasn't working. About a week or two later, the fuel gauge read half a tank but I ran out of gas. When I took it in to my father-in-law's shop, the fuel pump wasn't working so I'm not sure if the empty tank caused that to short out? I bought it from the daughter of the owner, the owner died in his late 80's. She told me that he really didn't drive much in his later years, so I'm guessing that had something to do with it?

I'd think the best thing you can do is install an LCE header and keep the revs down.

To the OP, the 2TR will move decent if you flog the hamsters hard enough. It can do 60 in second and 80 in third. Let her eat!

    Sales talk. What's the number.

Pretty true, and certainly the least expensive. The $/HP numbers for other work are pretty stiff.

Anything mechanical will have things fail if pounded on even when well maintained. 'Reliable' is just a factor of time vs abuse.

But. If you've never hit the rev limiter, you've not really been pushing it. :D
