I just got the timing belt and water pump done at the dealership.

I looked under my truck when I got home and this is what I found.

1 skid plate bolt in place.

1 skid plate bolt 1/4 of the way in.

    1 skid plate bolt missing.

get socket, extension, and ratchet. Set ratchet to "on". Place socket over top of bolt head and turn in an oscillatory motion resembling the motion of a pendulum. Repeat until you cant turn it anymore.

For the missing one, I would honestly just leave it missing. The OEM skids are garbage anyway so one bolt missing won't hurt anything.

Or, if it really bothers you take it back and have them fix it.

Edit: just realized you weren't literally asking how to put a bolt in. Sorry about that.

I think I'm going to go back and complain. If they can't put bolts in properly, how can I expect them to do anything else correctly?

When I bought my truck he guy had the skid plate off, he gave it to me and said that if I ever even take it to the oil changed somewhere I should just take it off myself, most mechanics only put like 2 back in

    lol @tards
Heard some pretty funny stories about lube guys at dealerships, involving drain pan bolts and impact guns, lack of oil and other such dumb crap.

I think there's only one and half bolts holding my skid in place. I know a couple of them had their heads sheared off probably years ago.

See this all the time at work. A lot of vehicles come in with the skidplates barely on.
I always try to find some spare bolts to replace the missing ones. I would definately take it back, though. If they were in a hurry, didn't care about the skidplate, whatever - doesn't matter. You paid for a job to be done properly and fully.

Who doesn't? It's not hard and it keeps the oil from building up in there. I wash the top of mine. Especially because it's a pretty red color :D

I would take back and let them know how unhappy I was.

Thats why I am scared to have anyone work on my truck, although I did just have over a $1000 bucks of stuff done to mine at the stealership including the water pump and timing belt.

I should of changed some of the fluids my self, I didn't know that a differential fluid change was worth $90 dollars.

I let the oil drip off of the skid onto the floor and clean it up, too much of a hassle to remove the skids, I did it once.

First time I changed the oil after I bought it, I found an inch, A WHOLE INCH, of oil and crud in there from the PO. I don't like that.

So I brought it back to the dealership. I got a bunch of apologies and they put the bolt in properly. Apparently what happened was the impact wrench broke the welded on bolt off.
