How has wool wax treated you?

Hello fellow north eastern residents. So ive been going through different rust prevention threads on here, and was wondering if anyone has been using wool wax long term. The dealer I bought the truck from had already done a full wool wax under coat so was hopeing I could get some feedback on how well it's prevented rust after 5 or more years of consistant application. Also was wondering how preserving the undercoat affects how I should wash my truck, should I be avoiding anything that sprays down the under carrage.

I’d get it sprayed every year, honestly maybe spring and fall for the first year or two. Wool wax, fluid film or surface shield have all seemed to be working from my perspective. It’s worth it, wash as normal, just don’t pressure wash the shit out of the under carriage.

How long have you been using it on the same vehicle? I know it's worth it, but at somepoint I'd really like to put a super charger on my truck, but it's going to be used in the winter for at least a couple years, so I'm asking because it's obviously not worth the investment if I can't keep the truck from rotting out. Just to add some context, where I live, the closest car wash is 45 min away so washing the salt off is kind of pointless because it's going to be covered by the time I get home anyway.

When I had my taco, the service advisor told me, if I keep doing what I was they they would never have to replace my frame. I had that truck for 5 years. Doing something on my runner almost every year, didn’t get anything last fall, but will for sure this year.

My ‘22 has been fluid filmed every October since it was new (so, twice)…and it looks brand new underneath after 2 North East Ohio winters. As long as I can afford to do it, it’ll be done every October going forward.

Search YouTube for Fluid film 5 years, or what not and see others results.

I've got eight years under my belt doing FF on my truck. Outside of the leading edge of the crossmembers that hang low and the leading edge of the LCAs my frame still has all its original paint. I do a heavy coat once a year and don't go crazy washing under the truck.

I also have the 24" 360° wand which I use to get the inner box sections by the cats. I do the doors, the tailgate, the inner fenders and bedsides as well. I loathe rust.

My 2010 rotted in April 2021, only had the CRC coating Toyota applied after the first frame inspection (pictures in my album if you want to see the rot holes).

I got the truck back in July 2021 and have had it Woolwaxed by a local every fall since. I don't take it through car washes so the underside has gotten nothing in that regard. So far so good. FWIW I don't drive it as much anymore, only about 25K miles since the reframe and the truck has lived outside all of the almost 12 yrs I have owned it.

As an aside, you should come hang out here too

My 2017 gets an annual undercarriage coating of Wool Wax. Zero rust.

It works, otherwise there wouldn't be hundreds of threads talking about it and why it's needed (woolwax is just a lower viscosity Fluid Film).

I do use cosmoline on the front of the LCAs though, and am currently giving Surface Shield a try to see if it works as good as fluid film.

I generally don't wash my truck during the winter, but if I do, I do opt for the undercarriage spray. FF is still their afterwards.

What is a ballpark figure for a fluid film application for a Tacoma? I live in Maine, and they really lather the salt on the roads here.

There's a TacomaWorld member, in SE MA, that does an outstanding Wool Wax application for $100.
