    So glad to see this thread popping up.
    SO SO SO GLAD!

    I see Small / Midsized trucks all over Arizona that are lifted and then have some sort of an adventure rack / chase rack on the back with RTT's and shovels and gas cans and a spare tire up over the axle. The bed has a decked system full of sh...tuff.

    If you figure that a Taco can carry about 1,300LBS, and you put two people in it at about 200LBS each - your cargo can't exceed 900LBS. Then the Decked System is 200LBS and the Cargo Rack is what 50LBS? Now you are down to 650LBS of capacity. That bigger oversized spare tire is a good 30LBS heavier than the stocker was, and the Jerry Can is 35LBS - Now at 585LBS of cargo capacity remaining. All of the tools, straps, gear, shovels are easily 100LBS if not 150LBS - down to 435LBS left.

    And that's just what they are running around town with - parking lots and pavement. That's about 500LBS of extra stuff before you put passenger 1 & 2 in the truck.
    Not to mention that the added weight and air drag kills fuel economy but it increases stopping distances and wears out suspension and braking components faster. Tires too.

    Currently I'm running the cheap-o tonneau cover that Toyota sold me with the truck, an empty bed, and then about 20LBS to 30LBS of stuff under the seats in the cab.

    I like to let the mission dictate the load out so I carry the minimum needed on a daily basis. Then when I go off-roading I add my off road container (air pump, straps, E-Tool, axe, etc), shovel, a flat of water, and my hiking bag. All of that adds less than 100LBS and probably closer to 50LBS to my rig. Camping gets a Pelican Case with a tent, hammock, sleeping bag, cooking supplies in it - another 30LBS? Maybe a small table and chairs - 10LBS? And a cooler with food and beverages - 20LBS. Might throw in some Radio Equipment - 10LBS.

    So with another passenger, off road, I'm carrying a grand total of 560LBS. and have a remaining capacity of 740LBS.
    Less stuff to load. Less stuff to carry. Less stuff to lose. Less stuff to clean. Less weight above the natural center of gravity. Less lost fuel economy.

    I get it - the adventure rigs that look like they just rolled off the floor at Sema are friggin cool as all hell. But I wouldn't want to daily drive one.

    Ounces = Pounds.
    Pounds = Pain.

    Worse still, driving said top-heavy beast off-road, which is what all of that bling is supposedly good for.

    My GVWR is 5450, payload is 1200. I was 5000 with me in the truck according to the scales at the landfill. Which should be about right. I weigh 220, the cap is probably 180 and I have a few tools and gear stored behind the back seat.

    Also regarding weight is stuff.
    Stuff needs to be secured.

    I rolled a 1984 Ranger back around 1993.

    No injuries except getting cranked in the head by a loose tire-iron.

    Ironically, it gets blocked from a Canadian IP address. Gotta love geolocation... And fortunately I use a VPN and can "be" almost anywhere I choose.

    It is actually a pretty funny sketch. I thought you were pointing me to something more serious.

    I’m at stock weight plus a bed cap, which is ~200 pounds.

    I used to have sliders but I ditched them because I never used them on the mild-medium trails I ride.

    think its okay to be a little heavy so long as its not preventing you from driving the way that suits your life.

    i have absolutely overloaded the truck a bunch of times, so long as a person is gentle with accelerating, turning, braking, not hitting bumps, probably will be a-ok.

    being chronically over weight, off-roading, hard on the pedals, definitely going to wear things out quicker. but i dont think one factor (weight) alone is going to ruin anything.

    I've scaled about 800 pounds heavier than you loaded. Nothing broken YET. But I'm sure wear and tear is GREATLY increased. I'm looking forward to an F450, and leaving the Taco to lighter duty in the future.
