I have a ‘14 with just over 40k miles. Insurance totaled it after I drove through flood water last year. Truck never died but the carpet got wet, maybe from rain while getting in and out and being soaked at the same time. The water was to the bottom of the doors though. Anyway insurance gave me $30k and I bought it back for $10k. I’ve changed fluids just for good measure and let it dry out for a while. Good as new. I just bought a ‘03 single cab 6 lug with 180k miles and it runs great, no leaks or problems so far.

It's a tacoma.... high mileage means nothing... haha i like to think these motors go for 250k miles. I guess things people forget about high mileage vehicles is bushings going bad or wiring hardening and cracking.

As long the truck is maintained well... i wouldnt hesitate buying it. Shoot ive been looking for at gx470s for the wife. Some have 180k miles and im still considering buying.

250,000 isn't high miles. Not if you take very good care and do the preventative maintenance on them. 350,000-400,000. That's when you get to high mileage. No problem, IF you've done timing chain, changed the valve cover gaskets, rear main seals, water pump, bolts/hoses, radiator. These are consumables, not "breakages".

Live Long and prosper. Travel well...

I’m more amazed at how many miles people rack up than what the truck has on it! I’ve had multiple cross country road trips and doing another starting on Friday. All that and I’m still only at 150k on my ‘08.
For these trucks, assuming regular maintenance...I’d consider 250k high-ish mileage.

When buying a Toyota truck, don’t look at the odometer. Use it as a negotiation point, sure. But too many people think of miles on the clock as a way to quantify how a vehicle was treated. It is just a small part of the overall picture and if you can get yourself comfortable with owning a high mile truck, there are deals out there.

I am a sales rep and drive 45-50k a year. It is 90% highway. I bought my 2012 in April of 17 with 21k on it. I’m at 175k right now and still have the original drum brakes. Two wheel bearings, an AC compressor and that stupid air pump is all I have done to it. Well under $1000.

My truck is probably worth $15k right now and is a waaay better condition than a truck that did 90k of stop and go traffic in NY or LA. But that truck with half the miles will cost you $4-5k more because KBB prices cars on options, miles and body work.

I expect to start having to replace rubber stuff here and there on my way to 250k. Ball joints, an alternator or whatever. But a couple $500 repair bills each year is still cheaper than a $600 new car payment every month.

Cracks me up that someone would worry about taking a 3-4 hour trip in a vehicle with 150k on it. My lake house is 270mi each way, 4-1/2hr ride... I go almost every weekend and never think twice about it in a 190k+ mile Tacoma! I leave the odometer on “Trip A” anyhow as I keep an eye on fuel consumption (trip B I reset at every 7,500mi oil change) so the highest mileage I ever see is 340

I have an 06 with 140K. I keep up on my maintenance and have done a coolant flush recently. As long as the engine does not over heat I don't know why I would have an issue with the head gasket. My truck seems to run strong coming up on 150K.
