I used a $12 gun magnet on my 2nd gen since I was mounting inside the console and not worried about it falling off. It seems to hold well so far although I have not driven much with it.

I've got 23 years as a cop, 16 as a firearms instructor, 6 as a SRT member & commander, use of force and DT instructor. I have used a serpa as my drop-leg holster for many active training classes (swat, close quarters pistol, vehicle takedowns, shield training, high risk warrants and many others) and on operations. I have experienced a rough draw due to dirt in training, but never a jam. It did teach me to keep it clean. Although I haven't thought about it, I can see the issue with the trigger finger pressing the release. I have been so indoctrinated with keeping my f***ing finger off the f***ing trigger until I am ready to fire that I can't see that happening to me, but I could see it happening to others. I don't wear one off duty because all kydex is uncomfortable to me. I have been a leather guy from day one. Now that I'm too old to play swat games any more, I may just use the serpa to mount in the truck. I really like the console mount. And one less holster in the box of gun stuff!

I was going to look tomorrow to see if my shield would fit on the lid with the magnet.

I did this when my truck was new 3 years ago and the velcro has held up real good.

Update: The magnet has been holding up just fine! Gun hasn't fallen off, easy access, and one of the best mods I've done.

Just did the serpa inside the console using the Blackhawk QD.

The QD comes with these nice mounting screws that I drilled through the console. Super solid.

Nice! I mounted a simple holster under my steering column.

I find this to be the best balance of concealed from outside the vehicle and accessibility. Learned the hard way (thankfully) in a force on force class.

Have you tested it off road/wheeling? Just wondering if it's strong enough to hold under those conditions. I carry a subcompact single stack (Springfield XDS), so it doesn't weigh much at all.

"Keep your booger hook off the bang switch"

I have used that phrase on new shooters many times...for some reason it's the one instruction that I don't have to repeat multiple times

I have been off road/trails plenty of times and it hasn't budged, I've been impressed. I also keep the 12rd magazine in it so that makes it even more top heavy. Recently I purchased a thin neoprene holster to help protect the gun but the magnet does not hold as well with it on, it will slide around. I plan on getting a XDS soon and have no doubt that it'll hold it securely.

Edit: I did mount the magnet where it was making full contact with the slide.

I just throw this in my console when driving. On me when done driving. Same exact setup for my Glock 30S, including the Talon grip.

Anyone have an idea for a console vault... that only takes up half or less than half of the console?? Can't really find any safes small enough to mount in there
