How I mounted a holster in my center console....

When I last attended Thunder Ranch the holster was not allowed and other ranges did not recommended it. Later while at Blackwater during stress drills the person to my left had a ND. The round went through his sherpa, through his pants, down his leg into the ground.

In debrief we found he slid his finger up the side of his holster to disengage the retention but while under duress did not adjust angle and pressure once the release engaged. His finger then slid into the trigger during the draw stroke.

It is a training issue but I use all passive retention so this is not an issue for me. If active retention I would not recommend this holster.

It's the mechanics...speed and precision on the draw stroke with finger placement.

So, there is truth to the Sherpa concerns and simple things tend to get complicated fast and we all dumb down to muscle memory.

Basically believe what you want but if you do not practice with your Sherpa natural selection will take care of the rest....

Got my Serpa CQC mount on ebay. Kit contains two female and one male adapter plus the hardware.
Wide range of holsters still available although some models like those for the PPK/S are difficult to find anywhere. Left hand models even scarcer in many models. Buy now or lament later.

I was wondering the same thing? I have had this same holster and with the new Taco I plan on keeping a while,I could use it.dont really want it in the console and can’t decide on driver or passenger side.

been thinking about mine for a while now. Thanks to your post I went ahead ahead and mounted mine. Have a little wiggle room to move in,but like to be able to grab it in that .0001 chance I’ll ever need it!

So what's the verdict? Does your leg rub on it?

It touches my leg. But it doesn’t bother me. I did move it closer to the console with a little less finger space. I had been looking at dropping it there for a while. Really the only area I really liked to place. Didn’t like it in the pocket behind the passenger seat, don’t like it in the console or glove box,too far to be practical on the passenger side, hard to reach with left hand on the bottom of the door(I am right handed). I just wanted something easier than trying to get it from out from under the seatbelt. I guess final verdict will be when I get offroad, but highway driving is no issue.

I mounted a Serpa CQC Holster in my Console Vault for when I can't carry......., banks, federal buildings ect.
I purchased a 2nd to mount on the passenger side of the console itself. No problem with your leg, a very small reach and it puts you in an easy position to turn on the drivers side door without feeling awkward scrunching your shoulders turning that way. Works very well for me. Go through the motions to see if it would work for you.

Yep, but mine is more forward between the seat and console (away from the seat belt), plus I use the seat belt extender to raise the seat belt clip in point.

Anyone ever mounted something in the glove box beings it's lockable? Not a safe I know but, at least someone (kids) can't just get in it whenever if it's locked.

I’d think if they break your window to get into your truck they’ll break other stuff inside or just get pissed and trash your interior.

That’s why retail places leave the empty cash drawer open when they close at the end of the day. So if someone breaks in they don’t smash the register to find it empty.

If you park outside I wouldn’t leave anything valuable in your vehicle, especially overnight.

The Blackhawk holsters are probably fine for the purpose in this thread.

My personal experience is with their Taser version. I had my first one for 4 years. Eventually it stopped retaining the weapon.

The pin on the retainer piece bent and caused the retainer to be floppy and move from it’s designed position. Before I go to work every day I draw and spark test the Taser, so the holster gets a workout.

My concern for the use as described in this thread would be the wear from constant removal of the gun from the holster when you get in and out of the truck. Won’t happen fast, but over the course of several years it could.

I don't know what this has to do with my question but... I don't park outside, if my truck is locked like another poster has mentioned then you're breaking the law by breaking into my truck anyway. I'm asking because I used to have it mounted in the center console of my 06 but I rigged up a lock on it. I don't want to drill holes in my gen3 which is why I'm looking into the glove box instead and the glove box happens to be lockable.

If someone wants something that bad in your vehicle, they'll probably get it no matter what it's in. Imho.

Anyone found a way to install a lock? Or somewhere where you can lock it? Aside from the dash.

Are you talking about a locking holster? Or someplace in the truck to lock up a gun? I have a locking vault in my console made by Tuffy (https://www.tuffyproducts.com/p-530-toyota-tacoma-2016-current-security-console-insert.aspx). It is decent enough to stop a neighborhood kid or parking lot lurker just trying to smash and grab quick pawn items out of a truck, but it won't stop a determined thief with tools who wants to get in. I only use it when I can't take my gun in with me where I am going, and I never leave a gun in it overnight.

And since I haven't seen it come up in this thread, another option is the Highway Holster mount. http://www.highwayholster.com/ I got one and use it with a kydex holster that clips over the mount bar. You can do a wide range of mounts to the bar to suit your preferences. I like it over the dash mounts because it puts the gun back closer to you and doesn't get in the way of your leg. Here are a few pics of mine mounted with an XD40SC in it.
