Actually you do make more power with a bigger intake pipe and no air filter. No restriction = more flow = more power. That's a no brainer. Doesn't mean I'm not going to run an air filter, just thought I'd throw it out there

The cat is designed to filter. It's literally built to be a choke point. There's nothing you can say that will change my mind lol

We most likely wont "feel" the difference, but that's not the point.

I have 02 PreRunner 3.4lV6 and last spring it started surging and making horrendous sounds, turned out to be the catalytic converter was the source of the scourge. Don’t need emissions tests here on Maui so just bypassed them rather than replace them. The exhaust is a bit more stinky than before this happened, but whatevs. I can live with the CEL on all the time & a slightly stronger whiff of exhaust.

I agree with this. even a bend in a pipe is a choke point. I think the class was thermodynamic where we had to calculate the friction in a pipe system. maybe wastewater class.

I heard it is difficult to kill yourself with modern cars with carbon monoxide poisoning. we rarely hear of anyone found in the garage with a garden hose taped into their windows from the exhaust pipe. I was told it is our modern catalytic working. dunno.

I'm cool with it. all of it.

Nope, they don't "filter" anything. They convert HC and CO into CO2. Don't get mad

KIMG0485.jpg I have a 89 Mustang Fox and took off the cats for no chokepoints. My 302 might be fast and sound unreal, but it stinks...I gotta get two new ones because my eyes water

..and H20? I think that is why our exhaust drips water sometimes.

H2O is a natural byproduct of burning hydrocarbons. As part of combustion, the C breaks up with the H and starts dancing with Oxygen instead (producing CO and CO2). Similarly, the H breaks off of C and also starts dancing with O, which gives us the hydrogen oxide, or that drinkable stuff. Oxygen just likes to dance with everybody, it ain't picky.
