Dont remember having to justify hard shifts on my new truck or having to fix tailgate alignment or "no real rattles." Totally great you love your new truck, but the picture you are painting of the third gen is just not accurate as evidenced by the last 8 years, this forum and sales.

These conversations go nowhere. Nobody convinces the other person to change their viewpoint. You had solid 3rd gen’s. I had a solid 2nd gen and so far a solid 4th gen. My 4th is nicer imo, but that’s comparing old good apples to new good apples. I’m content being happy with a good apple.

I'm not trying to convince anyone one gen is better than any other, I've had them all minus this new gen and am shopping for one in the future here, I'm just calling out the nonsense that the 3rd gen is some problem riddled terrible truck with all these issues he's trying to paint a picture of which is just not accurate or supported by anything besides his opinion. I was an early adopter of the 3rd gen and dealt with some of the growing pains and I'll be probably an early adopter of this one too, I still dont think its gonna be the "worst gen" like many allude to.

The forums are filled with those issues, including Facebook groups. I’ve been following the tacoma since 2016 it’s the most complained about generation out of the 3- now 4(soon to find out). I’ve owned 5 3rd gen tacomas solely for the resale value and the “want” to love them and I never could. I had major issues with a few of them. My 2022 started leaking oil from the valve cover at 2500 miles fixed under warranty then leaking again at 4500 miles this time from bad machining of the cylinder head, my 2017 had to bad front struts that were squeaking took the dealer and the field tech 3 times to finally replace the struts. The back window was leaking water(no it wasn’t the 3rd brake light). Replaced the window under warranty, my 2023 had the diff howl, a pull to the right that the dealer could never figure out. My other 2023 had the absolute worst engine vibration and rough idle in which I fought with the dealer 7 times and kept explaining to them I know how these trucks are suppose to feel considering I’ve owned this many and the response was it’s normal. It had 6k miles on and the final issue was it started vibrating and shaking while braking at 45mph or more, dealer said the drums had to much runout. These are my personal experiences along with reading and hearing similar stories over the years. My days of 3rd gens are over. Any issues I might have with the 4th gen will still be an improvement in my eyes. Again this is my view and some folks agree with me. Your entitled to your opinion as well

And that sucks for you, but out of the millions of third gens sold and still driven today your experience is the minority not the majority. Even the 2nd gens had owners with problems, my 2011 had a front diff leak at 30k miles, issues will happen, secondary air bypass issue in later 2nd gens, weak tailgates and engine mount issues in early ones, etc. And I hope your new truck treats you better and at the end of the day sounds like you are happy with it and thats all that matters.

I think the 3rd gen is great, though a bit small for me at 6’. I advised my 21 year old daughter to buy one new in 22. Its been perfect for 20k miles. I advised a buddy to get one last year over waiting for a 4th gen. He got a super nice lunar rock sport. No issues after 5k. Crossing my fingers that my 24 does 200+ k with the same solid reliability.

One “hard shift” dude, my 3rd gen did the same thing, the tailgate also was not aligned correctly on my 3rd gens, I pushed the tailgate over on my 4th gen and it’s lined up now

I was simply showing the error in your logic you are a month into ownership and already have "issues" whether small or large after the prior post you made listing off all the problems with the 3rd gen over the last 8 years. Again neither gen is gonna be problem free but the 3rd gen is not some heaping unreliable pile of trash you are making it out to be.

I’m not making it out to be a pile of crap, I guess it’s hard to explain yourself and thoughts over texting on a forum. I guess I’m making it out to be not the perfect truck that these people are bashing the 4th gen over issues it’s having which there are. My personal expierence with them wasn’t good, but like you said many people love them and that’s great. 4th gen initially to me seems better as the first model year then my 3rd gens last model year. Tailgate deff was not aligned but a simple push fixed it. The trans eh hard shift in morning from 1-2 not really big deal my 3rd gens would do that sometimes. It’s not a hard shift but more that fact you can feel it more. Guess we’ll see how the 4th gen does I’m sure there will be plenty of tsb and software updates coming just like every gen

Interesting I found the seating position was more accomodating in the 4th gens I drove but the backseat terrible and cab space similar. Guess if you are the primary driver makes sense its better feeling for you. When I tested out my daughters car seat I had more room in my turd gen slightly in the back.

I agree there is alot of quick to bash and I think its fueled a bit from Toyota pissing people off with pricing, a sh*t economy and inflation and some people arent in love with the powertrain or some design aspects, plus just like you mentioned the forums and pages and groups grows with each gen so issues are seen as more rampant based on the increased exposure, this forum exploded with the 3rd gen and social media crowd. I was here in 16 and with the CPS, diff and low trans issues you would have thought the 3rd gen was the worst truck ever. I will say build quality I feel continues to go down with each year (even noticed this between my different 3rd gens), which I think is across the board with everything post pandemic.

Agreed the pricing is ridiculous on the 4th gen. I’ll add one more point that might make sense to some but others it won’t. I think Toyota pissed a lot of people off with normalizing a lot of the annoying quirks of the 3rd gen, not actual “problems” but annoyances. Me personally, I would rather have an actual problem and get it fixed and done and over with then be forced to live with annoying quirks . So far the 4th gen falls into the actual problem category . Cracked hvac box, Toyota is replacing them. The 3rd gen had a similar issue where in high humidity areas the box would sweat and drop water onto the passenger side floor liner. This was deemed normal by Toyota for all those years with zero fix. I’m just using this as an example. Granted the 4th gen’s are still very new so we’ll see.
