Doesn't bother me too much, I frequently forget to hit the AC button. The Camry always keeps it where you last set it, but the truck does not. Weird.

My 3rd gen would still blow cold air in my face even with a/c off, that had auto climate control too. I think by switching to recirculate it stops air flow from going to the blower motor and reduces the air blowing in the cab. When driving with fresh air mode the air flowing goes to the fan and spins it. I don’t know it’s hard to know exactly what people are talking about over texting lol.

Long-time lurker, first-time poster…auto climate control should monitor humidity in the vehicle and turn the compressor on when it needs to lower humidity. If the humidity level is acceptable, compressor should turn off, but the a/c should continue to blow cold air. At least this is how my f150 works.

I think what these guys are saying though is the a/c compressor is cycling on and off while the system is completely turned off which doesn’t make sense to me

Correct, and to clarify the A/C switch is off and the fan on...

It does if you consider the idea that the humidity is controlling the compressor, not the temp or switch position.

A wiring schematic of the HVAC system electrical would be very beneficial to this conversation. If no humidity controller/sensor is present, it's clearly something else. If there is a controller/sensor in the circuit, it could be the answer.

Good point. Seems really wasteful to run the compressor to eliminate humidity if these people are driving with their windows down

I have no idea how such a setup would be optimized in a vehicle. Does seem wasteful yeah.

I didn't read the whole thread, but in my 2018 hilux when the AC's in auto it senses and controls humidity, with ac in regular "on" position, it just runs by set point.

Update - returned from the dealer. They said it is working the way it should - ac button off/fan on/blowing cold air (compressor cycling on/off), even with manual temperature adjustments. The system is adjusting to the cab temp. Jeez.....

just curious if this is a lemon law issue? I did the lemon law on a 2017 4runner because of the front end vibration and won. i just bought a 2024 sport and I took it to the dealer already for this issue. STart it up first thing in the morning to go to work and it is blowing cold air, no ac on. all i want is the friggen fan to blow air. pretty simple but I am going to go the 4 visit criteria for the next stage. I am really curious if anyone has gone that route?

I am not clear on your issue. Is the AC cooling the air?

yes the AC cools the air except when I don't actually want cold air and the AC switch is in off mode it still blows cold air. I don't want cold air.

That's exactly it. It's never really off. The AC switch will show green and AC will be on. If you toggle the AC button and the light is off, the AC remains on. I can't stand this and found that "AC on in Auto" setting and disabled that. I think it finally actually works as it should.
