I’m sure, and yet there will be weeks this summer that are cooler than last year. Weather is variable that way. It’s cooler than normal averages here in the SF Bay Area today, that’s not indicative of a trend either. No need to debate climate vs weather. All good. My AC runs fine in my taco when I need it.

Are you saying this is the fix for the cold air? AC on in Auto setting?

Our first week of ownership has been in high heat and humidity. We've been pleased with the system and vents. Additionally, I was back seat passenger and was impressed for it not having rear controls.

I have not sat in a 2024 yet, so are there rear vents or just the vents from the dash?

What I find amazing here is how many of you dump the 3gen for 4th gen. I was thinking 2024 sales would be down because of the 4 cly. And 20% price increase. I held out to end for my 2023 because I didn’t want a 4 cyl.

3rd gen is the most quirky gen of all tacomas riddled with issues some ongoing since 2016, I’d argue most actually, extremely expensive common issues to repair, absolute worst drivetrain of any truck ever produced. I could never go back to owning a 3rd gen. 4th gen is leaps and bounds a better truck and I’ll guarantee will be more reliable.

There are vents at bottom of center console but I did not feel cold air coming out. In our Subaru the similar vents only send warm/heater air. In our VW the similar center console sends out cold or warm. Someone who got their pickup earlier might now more. I did not look under seats to see if heat is sent that way.

For price many seem to have a gapminder problem, familiarity bias, are jealous or maybe daft to using an inflation calculator. I say that from our spending a long time looking at a lot of vehicles and from different makers. Inflation brought up the sticker prices for almost everything but EVs since our last time car buying. Surely there has to be cost from this line having more to offer than others. The tall, short and in between in our family found the seating and interior to be much improved. In actual use the new powertrain and now coil springs for most are really nice.

Also for price, only the Toyota and Nissan have long beds in this segment. The Tacoma is more appealing or at least was to us plus top safety rating. More on price. Most of the mid-size pickups are 5 ft bed and most of the reasonable to get full-sized are 5.5 ft bed. That came off as just plain "WTH" or dumb from my standing with work and business needs. The long bed TRD OR with upgrade and 400 watt are down right value against the options I faced.

I would have agreed with you, until I drove a 4th gen. The powertrain, seating height improvements, new dash design and layout, and more comfortable ride with a longer wheelbase made a huge difference. I went to the dealer intent on buying a 21 trd OR short bed with 36k miles and left with a brand new sr5 4x4 long bed for 2k more. The driving experience changed my mind.

I can turn off the ac compressor. I do not use auto. If I notice that it is on, I will hit the AC button twice. The first time the green light comes on, the second time the light goes off. U usually do it a few minutes from home to dry out the condenser to keep the AC smells down. Works every time.

Nothing comes out of the vent slots on the bottom of the 2nd gen center console except dust and an occasional random bug. Warm or cool or refrigerated air comes out of the two nozzle vents under each of the two front seats if you have the dials and buttons set correctly. The delivery is there, but it's pretty weak.

Legitimate question, if the power is there in the right RPM range (which it looks like it is) then why the 4cyl hate? Is it a question of reliability because of the turbo?

    Full disclosure, I'm dumping my '07 4.0L for a 2024.

This new 4cyl was built from the ground up with a turbo setup in mind. It’s beefed up for it.

You are correct. I don’t think Toyota would phone it in on the industry’s best selling midsize truck. yeah, something is awry with the Tundra, but it’s never been a market leader. Personally, I think the Tundra is pushed too hard for all that hp/tq and I don’t think the oil weight can handle the load. But that’s just me. Anyway, Tacoma engine and transmission combo is a winner.

Especially when they iron out the Tacoma with some tsb bulletins/software updates and get the QC fully figured out. No doubt it will end up being more reliable than the 3rd gen. The frame and updated suspension and body mount design to me is the best improvement. The engine looks incredibly easy to service being there’s so much room, turbo is in a good spot for service, no more mechanical fan thank god! One piece driveshaft big improvement as well. Double front timing cover so no more dreaded timing cover leaks. Huge water inlet hoses spec for a v8 and finally an electric steering rack, no more leaks and less hoses and lines super easy steering effort. Everything is a win mechanically in my eyes
