They admitted that the SR is detuned mainly for cooling and NVH limitations. Basically, you're not getting the oil cooler and nearly as much insulation in the engine bay.

I wonder if the detuned 2.4 has the same turbo or if its a smaller turbo. If it's the same you know the plasti-dip crowd is gonna go straight to the tuner shop regardless of warranty.

How shameful automakers are bending over to their government elites in order to comply with their crazy agendas.
If it was for this and other regulations and automakers would make a more reliable design. Emissions regulations play a big role. I wishToyota would have include the 2.8 turbo diesel one of their Tacoma lineups like they do with the Hilux. We see this with Jeep but Jeep doesn't give you a 6 speed manual when you select the diesel engine. Countries that get the Hilux do get both gas engine or diesel.
Hopefully the 2.4 turbo is built tougher for truck use. Reliability only time will tell. That lowed torque and gear ratio comes a long way. Meanwhile I'm a happy camper with my 3rd gen for now. I'll see how the 4th gen goes in 2 - 3 years as it matures and the issues gets resolved like we saw with the first 1 - 3 years in the 3rd gen.

They aren’t “bending over” they’re complying with the law. If they don’t they get shut down.
