I don't know if someone already figured this out, too much to read late at nite but here is my answer/solution...

49 and 49 add up to 98, (no surprise there) and that is money that is still owed. The addition of the dollar that was kept, is "double accounting". That single dollar that was kept is one of the 98 dollars still owed, so it was listed in the debt column AND in the asset column, and then added back to the debt. That is where the account error took place.

How about this? I borrowed $100 from my parents. I gave $2 back, $1 to each parent and kept $98.
Each Parent: $49 + $49 = $98.
I still have $98 so $98 + $98 = $196.


I just created $96 out of thin air.
