How long can one drive with ECT on? What are the effects if one drives continuously with ECT on?

I am driving in a hilly area and would like to just keep ECT on. When pressing the gas pedal, it is Tacoma sluggish, then jumps up to 5500RPM+ an rockets away. With ECT that is a lot smoother. But I have no idea of the long term effects of keeping ECT on.

You can drive with it in indefinitely if you wanted. It will not cause any harm.

Leaving ECT on all the time won’t hurt anything. RPM shift points will be a little higher so your MPG might be a little lower.

You can mod it to always enable ECT after startup. Turning it off is like overdrive to get the MPG on the window sticker down a few percent.

I think you can do wire or tune mods to change things and run it all the time.

I used ECT a lot before my tune and I never noticed it negatively affecting gas mileage. With tune and more aggressive throttle and different shifting, negligible changes. I doubt if ECT setting hurts anything.

Thanks y’all! Driving in Germany at the moment. OTT or pedal commander are illegal here. So I am stuck with the poor man tuning ECT…

I have owned my Tacoma for a bit over a year and I have NEVER tried the ECT button.
Why? I' am not sure, maybe I'm just a sadist.

I got some of the stuff and a road map for the rest...
Sometimes, I notice that my truck is running sluggish. That is when I realize I forgot to hit the etcetera power button. I drive 99% city, it is a must.

you can also push the shifter over to S-mode to help with the hills. It defaults to 4th gear
