I most interested in recent purchases of Tacomas people had to wait for. I think that this waiting will soon end as interest rates rise and more waiters will back out entirely giving buyers more leverage at the dealership.

First a comment on terminology, Toyota does not accommodate "orders" in any way, shape, or form; they build whatever they darn well please, and then tell the dealerships what is available to them. What dealerships do allow is for you to put money down on a "request", once the request is in place, they will scan their future allocations and if/when one comes close, they'll ask you if you want it; if not, you wait until future allocations are published.

With the above said, the time between deposit/request, and delivery can be as short as a few weeks (rather atypical), and as long as a year or more. In my case I put my deposit down in February on what is frequently referred to a "unicorn" (not a common build) for a TRD Sport, DCSB, 6MT, Blue Crush Metallic, Premium Package and Advanced Tech Package; my dealership got an allocation for that exact truck, but in Barcelona Red Metallic, in August and I accepted it. My Tacoma was built the first week of September and will be delivered to me in the next week or three.

Thanks for the replies and information. My future vehicle purchase is want not need and I am trying to wait for "looking and seeing" prior to purchasing.

Yeah, I am quite happy with my current car, a 2006 Acura TL 6MT, but it is starting to get long in the tooth and parts are starting to become "auto-recycler" only, so I figured I had time to be patient; when I first talked with my sales associate and told him of my ask he said, "Hmmm, maybe six to eight months, maybe never." I was okay with that and put a deposit down. :)

Deposit placed on 4/27/22 for a TRDOR, DCSB 4x4, Auto, Premium and Tech packages, celestial silver metallic. Dealer sells at MSRP with a reasonable doc fee of $299.

Still waiting. Was offered a white PRO a couple weeks ago but I don’t want to spend the extra $5-6k for the PRO.

I’ve been searching casually within 500 miles and have come across my build spec at a couple dealers but they want a “market adjustment” of $5k and / or tack on BS mandatory add-ons.

Pass. I’ll be patient in the hopes of getting the exact truck I want.

Why may I ask do you want another Tacoma? I am still very happy with my 2016 and no plans to trade in unless Toyota makes the 4th Gen very compelling.

5 months from deposit to new truck in my driveway. The sales gal got me exactly what I wanted, an Army Green TRD Sport access cab manual with no packages, basically stripped. It came with bed lights, floor mats and black tube steps.

    Perfect!

I think you will see that start to back off soon. With the supply chain issues beginning to improve, interest rates at their highest in two decades, and consumers worried about recession and postponing major purchases, sales are already starting to slow and inventory levels are improving. If you can wait a while it would be to your advantage to do so.

I’ve had several Tacomas over the last twenty years. First, second and third gens. Just the best mid-size truck on the market. They have their quirks and all but overall they are just great trucks. And the resale value is the icing on the cake. I got rid of my 2018 in my bio because it was a manual. Hated the manual. Put up with it for a year and just never liked it. Went a different route and now I’m looking for another Tacoma.

The new 2023 Colorado and Canyon do look nice but I’ll wait a few years to see how those pan out before seriously considering them as options to the Tacoma.

I am waiting on an SR that my dealer already had on order. The salesman gave me the (preliminary) VIN last week and on Friday I could no longer get in to the Toyota VIN page on their website using that VIN. I called my salesman, he checked and gave me the new (supposedly permanent VIN) and told me the window of delivery was from 10/13/22 to 10/29/22. Maybe I'll have it by Thanksgiving. Not a huge wait. A few years ago my wife and I waited about 5 months on a 2019 RAV4 Hybrid from Japan. This SR is from the central Mexico plant (name is too long to bother with).

Where in the country are you? I’m in the Midwest and found several at or even below MSRP for TRD Premium, LED, advanced tech. I know certain states are more ridiculous but I guess I wanna save as much as I can and am willing to fly for the right truck at the right price.

I took delivery of my off road DCSB in late April of this year, wait time was approximately 6 weeks. Wasn't exactly what I wanted, but it was pretty damned close. Didn't have to put a deposit down, just called dibs on it. Dealer had no markups, bought at MSRP.

I’m in central Kansas. Closest Toyota dealer is an hour away and they are small. Not many allocations. Also hard to find a dealer that will work with me since I’m not local. Dealer I’m working with is three hours away.

Ole No. 1, I looked at new inventory at quite a number of dealers in Eastern Kansas. A lot of them had less than 4 or 5 Tacomas. I had to look at Topeka or the KC area to find any one dealer with more than just 4 or 5.

Yep. Lewis Toyota is in Topeka, Hays and Dodge City. When I initially started looking they were marking up over list. Same with Eddy’s in Wichita. KC dealers either were doing the same, or weren’t taking deposits (first come first serve when it hits the lot) or wouldn’t deal with me because I wasn’t local to the KC area. Crown Toyota is who I’m dealing with at this point.
