Where the heck is this at, private? I paid $6,700 a semester (no financial aid/grants) for undergrad and $8,500ish for graduate (good state university). It's been going up since I've been in college, but dang that's expensive. I'm currently in the Master's program, so those prices are pretty current.

Granted, I think freshman have to pay a lot more since they have to be on a meal plan and in the dorms. Even the best "unlimited" meal plan comes out to over $10/meal. I also live out in the middle of nowhere but since its a college town, some apartments are $1,200/month for 550sqft.

    This and that...
You have great parents, many others are not as fortunate. Im a special education school teacher and see first hand the difficulties a lot go through. You can't expect everyone to have the same experience as you, though I do understand your frustration.

On a side note, I do explain all options of post high school education even trade schools where a job from there could give you a salary larger than my own. I do believe everyone should seek higher education after high school. I had student loan debt after my masters, only way I could afford it. Parents didn't help but it was for a higher salary afterwards. Government forgave a small portion and has been forgiving loan debt for awhile now for education and medical students that work in high poverty areas for at least 5 years. When you think of the benefits that incentive provides for our country, more qualified professionals in rural and urban areas, you can see that it helps everyone by raising them out of poverty. Again, those that are in poverty come from some serious fucked up backgrounds. Providing this help to others that may not be in the medical or education field would certainly provide some breathing room. Regular debt from rent, groceries, gas, etc, racks up fast during this times for people that graduated into this mess. Just my .02, do with more children I work with had parents like yours though.

    Yeah, private in the city.

That same apartment would be $1,600+ near me. It’s all about the area of the country you live in as far as that is concerned.

I had one of those in high school, and I do definitely agree that is the most important and most neglected subject for high school and even college. Ours was largely based on Dave Ramsey as well. It taught me many money skills, but didn't have enough time to get into details such as taxes or the details of the stock market. But I learned about mortgages, auto loans, retirement, and budgeting.

Yeah it's really insane how expensive college is getting. I left school 10 years ago with about 10k of loans, it was only that little because my parents helped me out, it was a state school and I worked 80hr weeks all summer.

My parents went to the same school, and worked part time and were able to graduate with no debt.

I sold my Tacoma last summer, took the equity and bought a used 4runner free and clear so I could afford to go back to school to advance my career. I work full time and make decent money but it's still stressful. I don't get how people expect an 18 year old to work fulltime making shit money and go to school fulltime. Wages have stagnated so much compared to the cost of everything, but higher education especially.

    as little as possible

I pay cash for ANY /All purchases

while pricing is volatile...............some dealers buying back vehicles more than they are worth

customers paying MORE for a vehicle than a vehicle is worth

why pay for a depreciating asset thats wearing out

if at an extremely LOW % or NO Interest financing out to when the buyer intends to get rid o vehicle

    ‘ Churning “ = frequent trades with Fees.....Sales Taxes.....Increased Insurance rates

    most are LOSING $$$$$$ !!!!!!

I bought my Tacovid last May - 60 months at 0% and that's with a nice discount off MSRP.

There's nothing wrong with financing a vehicle, just be financially responsible and you'll qualify and get the best available rates. Don't forget to save for retirement.

Had zero down and zero % for 3 months. After that the % went up. Paid it off after the 3 months.

60 months at 3.9% in July of 2019. I was 22 when I bought it. After trade in and down payment, ended up financing $25K. Paying extra each month to get it paid off sooner!

I think people are over marketed loans and financing. They make it sound like it's easy to make a sale people fall for. I never use credit to by something if I don't have a plan to pay it off.

If the rate is artificially low, then take advantage of it for as long as possible. I went with 60 & 72 months on my current 2 loans. 60 is almost paid off. I can afford to pay cash, but my savings make a much higher return.

I also buy the longest, best dealer warrantee. My Tundra has 20 years on it, still going strong. Warrantee paid for itself a couple of times before it ran out. No major issues yet on the Taco or T4R.

I was extraordinarily lucky to have a full tuition scholarship and only had to cover my living arrangements with federal student loans and grants. I don’t know how I would have done it otherwise. I paid off my loan about 3 years post-graduation.

I've always been super money motivated, I started throwing money into retirement and just lived below my means at 18, but became disabled at 19. I'm currently 22, we do okay with my husband's wage, but watching the interest grow on that small bit of money from a few years ago makes me think of what could have been. Hoping my business gets off the ground so I can contribute to it again. A lot of younger people make mistakes with credit, whether it be loans or credit cards in general and I can't imagine how difficult my 20s would be if I hit the ground running like that. It's great to see a lot of people are pretty savvy in here, then again, we all have Tacomas, so I feel like it's not a terrible coincidence, lol.

Cash is they only way to go. I drove an old POS car when I was young and saved until I could pay cash for the next vehicle. After that the routine was easy: pay cash and make payments to myself until I'm ready for the next one. I hate the idea of debt.

I remember my first credit card had a 14% APR  and I quickly realized how I'd rather have that interest money instead of giving it to a bank for my bad decisions.

However with rates so low, I took a 60 month at 1.99% for my Tacoma and I'm still paying it off early. I could pay it off now, but for example I'm buying another Roth IRA for the year that should have a much better return.

Yep I paid for all the stuff I put on the truck in cash accept that tonneau cover. I did use PayPal credit on a no interest promo but I paid it off when I sold my old Liberty. More or less used their money for free so I didn't have to use my savings for a month. I will keep paying cash.
I also use my BJ's perks mastercard for gas at the club because the reward you don't have to do anything else for is ten cents off per gallon. Then I pay it in full monthly.
