How long did you have to wait for your 2021 factory order?

Can you tell us what the code is for each option you ordered. I am trying to find all the codes on mine that were added by the dealer.

 

Ok... So I just got some sad news. My OR MT that I ordered in the end of January is still not here, it was supposed to be here tomorrow, then last week I heard that it was not supposed to be here until 5-25, next Tuesday. That delay doesn't bother me, we have been waiting since January, what's another week, right? Well today I got a call that it has been delayed until July 7th, another 7 weeks which is a large concern to me. Is it built yet, its been 5 months?!? Is it subject to this chip shortage? what's going on?!?!? Frustrating to say the least!

I called and spoke to the inventory manager and he sent me a few screen shots showing me that the truck has a VIN, but I have heard that there could be temporary "pre-build" VIN's as well. I am putting that snip down below and if there is anyone who can tell me what I am looking at, some "translation" would be greatly appreciated! After he sent me the screenshots we got off the phone and I pondered what I was looking at. I had more questions so I called the man back. I have already sold my old car (too early I know but we got a deal we couldn't pass up) and so the additional 7 weeks with my bride and I sharing 1 car is not a workable thing especially if we don't even know if the truck is built or not....

I called the inventory manager back and asked him the questions that I had, we hung up so he could call the distribution guy for the region and see if he could get some answers. What I was told when he called me back is that there is transportation issues delaying everything as it relates to shipping right now. He says that my VIN on the screen is correct and that the truck has indeed been built and is sitting at the factory in Mexico waiting on the train. The issue is at the rail head in venicia??? (sp) California where is currently experiencing labor issues and have been for some time, these issues are delaying the shipping of the already built vehicles. I am told that the July date is a "worst case scenario" and that they are thinking that actual delivery times will be much shorter than the beginning of July.

What does this story sound like to y'all? Any insight, ideas or decoding of this tale is appreciated! We now have to decide if we believe that the truck has actually been built as that fact edetermines how long we are willing to wait. If we are not a victim of the chip shortage then I say wait it out.... or, if we haven't been built yet, do we cut bait & buy a car to get us through and move on to the next one... I have been waiting for my manual transmission Tacoma for a long time so I am not giving up the ghost easily, however if the truck hasn't even been built yet, I don't know if there is going to be much choice, even a patient man has limits...

Judging by your VIN it looks like your truck is being/was built in Guanajuato, Mexico, although I could be wrong. If it was built in Guanajuato, it would not be coming to California by rail, but to Long Beach, CA by ship.

 

Was built / being built is better than in limbo waiting. I wonder if the "rail issues" being described to me would be coming from Cali into Texas?

Thank you for checking up on that VIN... I am glad to see it is a real truck... Now I have to figure out if we wait or not...

 

I guess I can't post pics yet or this message board hates my phone but got a text that my truck is supposed to be delivered between 6/8/21-6/13/21. The dealer ordered it in April. So, we'll see.

 

April to June... Not bad!

 

Yeah, I'd be ecstatic if I could get mine in 2 months. But the dealer is saying 3.5 to 4.

Well my truck was supposed to start being built yesterday but my temp vin is still working in the vin look up website, so it must not have actually started getting built yet ugh.

 

Is there a way to tell if you have a temp vin or a post build real vin?

 

Haha breath man. Overall wait is 3-4mo, a day or two is nothing! But I get it! (I'm three weeks into the wait.)

 

I'm not much help but I can give you mine as an example:
My temp VIN was 3TMGZ5AN3MM15B997, the day it was built it became 3TMGZ5ANXMM419---. (I left the last three digits out because ......, well, I'm really not sure why either.)
Notice that the"3" became an "X" and the last six digits became all numbers.

 

Pick my Barcelona Red OR 4x4 DC Manual up two weeks from tomorrow. Total wait time from order will have been just under 3 months at that point.

 

If the 4th digit from the end of VIN is a letter, that’s a temp/pre-build one. The VIN lookup on Toyota’s site will stop working once they start it’s build.

I’d think the dealer should be able to look up the permanent number for you, or if it was like the dealership I’m working with they auto-published it on their website under new tacomas. I was able to figure it out by features and msrp for the build.

I’ve got a tentative delivery date of Monday, however my salesman has said a few times there’s been a backlog of trucks getting on/off the trains making it take a bit longer.

 

Army Green TRD Offroad, premium and tech packages, led headlights. 4x4 short bed. Has some other little add ons like bed lights and mud guards.

Edit: (original post was on a cell phone) I paid a deposit on a truck my sales man called me about on what I was looking for on May 13th. I got some build sheet with a temporary VIN number and the salesman sent me a permanent VIN Wednesday. The truck was scheduled to be built on the 18th. Scheduled to be delivered between June 8th thru the 13th...we'll see.

 

Hello everyone, so I put a deposit in the beginning of March and the dealership told me it would be anywhere from the beginning of May to the end of July. I was totally ok with this since I figured, if I'm spending the money, I'm getting every option and color I want.

So I wanted a 2021 Voodoo Blue Tacoma TRD OF DC Premium.

I was unaware about the whole Canada not getting a VIN until it's delivered, it would have been cool to go on the app and look at everything.

Anyhoo they called me on Friday saying I could pick it up this coming up Friday (28 May 2021) which is super cool.

There is only one issue I had was I was kinda upset I couldn't pay extra for the LED headlights like our friends in the USA. I even called Toyota Canada and the lady pretty much blew me off.

So now I'm going to have to figure out how to purchase them at a reasonable price from a dealer...or does anyone have any ideas how to grab these LED headlights?
