    Another update from the dealer:

"It's in the Valley, but it has not been processed at the Railyard yet.
It's estimated that will happen tomorrow, then it could be to us either Thursday or Friday.
Normally takes two day's for them to truck it down to us.
That could be as early as 7 am or as late as 9 pm.

If it gets to us early in the day we could possibly inspect it and get it detailed the same day.

If it's afternoon or later, we'll need a day.

    But it is now close!"

My girlfriend asked me how far apart the contractions are.....

I put down my deposit on Oct. 8 and the truck was built on Nov. 10 in Guanajuato, Mexico. Shipped by sea from Vera Cruz. The dealer just told me that it's arriving today (Dec. 9) at the Port (Newark, N.J.). Average length of processing and loading at the Port is 4 days, assuming there is no body damage to be repaired. It will be trucked down to Virginia. So, if all goes well, I should be seeing it some time next week!

Update: The ship (the PRESTIGE ACE) is unloading in Newark. It had left Vera Cruz on Dec. 2. So it takes about a week to sail around Florida from Vera Cruz to Newark. I imagine this is the route all the Toyota production from Guanajuato will take to the northern East Coast of the U.S.

Well, I have been told that I can pick up my TRD OR 6MT today! I intercepted an allocation on 9/21/20, it was built 10/26/20, put on quality hold and then released. Shipped on 12/4/20 and is now at the dealer -- almost 13 weeks. The dealer sent me pics:

In my case, it was built on 11/10 and loaded on the ship sometime between 11/29 and 12/2. This 19-day "quality hold," I think, just lets them accumulate enough vehicles (the ship has a capacity of 4,000) to make the voyage worthwhile.

Logistics is what's causing the major wait time.

Wonder what the Quality Hold was for.

My dealer found an allocation that was close enough to what I wanted on 11/9. They submitted a request to change some of the packages/accessories the same day, but they haven't all been approved/updated by the factory yet in their system (per the screenshots I'm being sent). My sales person is going to check on what's going on, but hopefully I'll get the truck by early next year.

Nice. I will have had mine exactly 1 month on Dec 14 (and I just went to the DMV this afternoon to get the tags). I remember picking mine up from the dealership. Had 2 miles on the ODO. You'll love the OR MT. And the LED lights are just sweet!

It's a matter of economies of scale. The Toyota Tacoma factory is in Guanajuato, in central Mexico north of Mexico City. There are good rail links to the ports of Lazaro Cardenas, on the Pacific coast, and Vera Cruz, on the Gulf coast. The cheapest way is to send the vehicles by ship from these ports, respectively, to the West and East Coasts of the U.S. Destinations to the central part of the U.S. are more likely cheaper served directly by rail.

Note that each ship carries about 4,000 vehicles on each voyage. Basically, they are huge floating garages. The vehicles are driven on and off on their own power. (There are YouTube videos showing the loading/unloading process.)

This is all planned out in detail by the logistics experts at Toyota.

I placed the deposit Oct 19 with the dealer for an off-road DCSB with just tech package. Just got a notification Dec 4 the order was picked up for toyota build schedule. Actual build is maybe in January?, not clear yet. I just don't want the Christmas truck... I know what manufacturing is like over a disruptive holiday like this.

So, the final report is that I put down the deposit on 10/8, and ultimately took delivery on 12/9. So excited to finally have it!

So it took nine days from port arrival until final delivery? That means I should be getting mine by the end of next week!

Interestingly, my dealer never cashed my deposit check. It's been more than 2 months.

Also ordered around the same time. Ordered 10/26/20, still no updates. 21 army green TRD Sport AC with manual transmission. Hopefully mine is on the same boat as yours since we ordered around the same time. Frustrating cause no updates were given to me, although it's only been roughly 6 weeks.

Took almost 3 months to receive a ‘21 manual Pro.

Deposit November 28th, it's being built December 22nd. Then who knows when it will show up. The salesman seemed to think I'd have it the first.week of January. We shall see.
Now.....I did get bumped up a bit because the dealer had a truck in order, they let.me take their order and change it to what I wanted. Had I not been given their spot in line, I'm sure the wait would be longer. I was also told alot of the covid crap has slowed down production as well as plant closures earlier in the year made it hard as well.

Maybe even better than that. I never got an update on the exact port arrival date, but my Taco actually hit the dealer on 12/4. It just took a few days before I could close the transaction.

Something strange is happening. So, my truck arrived in Newark on Dec. 9. Now, it appears that the same ship (the Prestige Ace) left Newark yesterday (the 12th) headed for ... Baltimore! Could it be that instead of trucking the vehicles down to the D.C. area from Newark, it was cheaper to send them most of the way by ship? If so, they unloaded my Tacoma in Newark, ran it through the inspection process, and then loaded it again on the same ship! (There is a vehicle port terminal in Baltimore, but Toyota doesn't have a dedicated facility there as it does in Newark.)
