LOL, I guess that was not too clear. I jumped on an allocation and put a deposit down on 9/21/2020 with no VIN number, but a build date of 10/26/2020 — that moved a couple of times from initially 10/21/2020. After it was built I got a VIN # on 11/9/2020 and took delivery over a month later on 12/11/2020. So in the driveway in 13 weeks, but there was progress along the way to assure me it was mine. They got the allocation and got the color change I wanted, then got the factory tonneau at which point on 9/21/2020 I put down a $1,000.00 deposit—didn’t matter to me if it was refundable — the truck was what I wanted at the price I wanted. Then it was built on 10/26/2020 and on 11/9/2020 I got the VIN #. After that I just had to wait a long time. Someone on the forum speculated that after being built you have to wait to “fill up the boat,” which I think is the most viable explanation. Other people have had trucks sold out from under them. I kept up a paper trail throughout. If you have nothing going on as far as the milestones that I have outlined above, I would be skeptical of whether your purchase will come to fruition. Keep asking the dealer for info. Good luck.

Thanks for the detailed response, i appreciate it.

I ordered mine on October 26th, 2020 and placed a $500 deposit(refundable). Still nothing, no build date, no VIN, straight nothing. Last time the dealer texted me was late December and stated they haven't received an allocation yet for the truck. I am hoping for the best, but to me it seems like that specific dealer is at the mercy of Toyota granting them the allocation.

I'd be happy if I atleast got a little information, even if it was a measly build date a month from now or something. But it's gonna be 3 months pretty soon, and still no good news.

Guess it varies though, some wait 2 months, others 5-6 months. As long as I get the truck i ordered I'll be happy. :fingerscrossed:

I hate to appear negative, but on 9/17/20–before I put a deposit on it, my salesman told me:

“Great news, we got your truck allocated to us. It will take a day or two, but when it shows up on our inventory I can add your accessories and also see it’s build date estimate.”

That is when I put down a deposit and essentially had the right to purchase the truck. Without the dealer obtaining the allocation on your truck, you are waiting on an empty promise. I would suggest starting over with your salesman and getting something concrete.

I put my deposit down the same day that I placed my order for the truck. The dealership that I'm going through has been good about keeping me updated. They let me know when the allocation when through, then last week, called to verify the options that I wanted on my truck, because for some reason there was more slated to go on it than I wanted. It was then that I also found out the build date, which it Feb. 5th.

I appreciate the insight. I will try to contact them and see what's up in the upcoming week.

All yall that are ordering trucks, are you paying MSRP for the hassle or are you still getting % off MSRP as a normal negotiated sale?

As Barrister said, unless the dealership has an allocation coming in that matches what you want, you may be waiting a while.

I had an allocation assigned to me back in early November for a 2021 Tacoma TRD OR in the color I wanted (Cement). The sales person requested a change with the factory to add the Premium and Technology packages, but they were never added and the truck showed up at the dealership at the end of December without them. So we basically had to start over. They received a couple new allocations a week ago, but neither were the color I wanted and the sales person would have to request the changes from the factory (again).

I ended up searching at other dealerships, and I found an incoming allocation with the color/packages I wanted, so I ended up putting a deposit down on that Tacoma instead (build date ETA = 2/11). Hopefully this one works out, as I just didn't want to keep waiting on future allocations without anything more concrete...

The Toyota "allocation" process is much different than the 2021 Audi TT we recently ordered for my wife. For the Audi, we selected the color, options/packages, accessories, put down a refundable deposit, and 3 months later the car arrived as ordered.

MSRP. At least around here there's plenty of demand, so the dealer has no incentive to offer any discount. They can sell the truck at full price easily.

I negotiated down then waited. Ended up finding the exact truck on a lot, that dealer matched the deal so I pulled the trigger.

Congrats. Since me and you are getting identical trucks, and we are in same location - where did you end up getting yours?

Mine is arriving 1/25-1/29. Freight status. ON truck now. The ones we want, I know there are total of 4 in the western USA that are in A or Freight status. One is available on the ground, $2,500 off MSRP, but doesn't have the LED package.

Freeman Toyota in Santa Rosa, CA.

It's not completely identical, as mine is the short bed + Advanced Technology Package. :)
