Hi all! First time posting here on the forums. I didn't order mine from the factory but I reserved one at the dealership on 7/20/2021. It's currently about 30 miles away at the next closest town. I should get delivery today or tomorrow!

2021 TRD Off Road 4x4 short bed w/tech and blackout package in Army Green.

I've been following this thread for a few months now and didn't realize you could get the scheduled build week from the temp vin until today. Thanks for that!

My temp vin has 33 for the production build week and my dealer initially said it was scheduled for August 18 build which is right in the middle of week 33. I got an update from the dealer yesterday saying it is now projected for August 30. The temp vin starts with a 5 and it says it will be built in Texas.

I'd just learned that as well! That said, I got the temp VIN in the same conversation I got an estimated build "date". In hindsight, salesman simply read the temp VIN! Smart on Toyota's part.

I feel ya, until yesterday I’d felt like I’d met a hot chick then got ghosted! Once the deposit was cleared I never heard a thing from em! Drove me nuts, a little bit of customer service goes a long way in my opinion. Plus I think I have a little bit of big purchase PTSD. I bought a zero turn June 2nd and still haven’t received it and their communication is absolute trash!

good luck, hope it all works out

This how most play, they were so nice to get us in and get deposit. You need to talk to sales manager.

horrible way customer service has turned. I was going to call the GM today but after I got a reply from the “Internet salesman” yesterday I feel a little better…. vin stopped working so I’m just crossing my fingers. I’m still bitter about the service and experience. If I actually take delivery it won’t be taken out on the truck or Toyota in general, but this particular dealer lost my future services and business.

Do you need brake in time and 1000 miles oil change. As i heard it is not recommend to towing as soon as you get it https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/break-in-period.485845/

It just showed up under my zip code. The inventory manager (helps to be friends with this guy) echoed what others have said here - it'll be built on the 19th. He explained that they are inundated at the port, so it likely won't get to me until the first or second week of Sept. I guess I can wait.

Yah, I wanted an off road, double cab, long bed with the advanced technology package and LED headlights. No leather seats, etc. They told me it was a unicorn, then I saw three exactly like it on their lot. "Oh, those are rentals. That's something different." WTF.

Ya learn something new everyday: I didn't think you could get advanced tech packages w/o the premium OR/Sport one as well. Guess most that spring for that also want/buy the leather/sunroof as well.

It's why the sales guys hate the build/price option on Toyota.com. It does happen, just not often. Seems it actually is a rare truck.

I feel bad seeing a lot of posts about people working with dishonest dealers because I feel like a got really lucky.

If anyone in Utah is looking for a trustworthy honest dealer, you should reach out to Jason Villanueva at Tony Divino Toyota.
    jvillanueva@tonydivinotoyota.motosnap.com

He is a big Tacoma fan as well, and didn't play any games with me on my custom order or the price. I try not to harass him with too many text messages, but whenever I text him a question he responds.

I definitely advocate anyone who finds a trustworthy person for custom orders to share it in this thread.

I had no choice given when it came in. Read mixed recommendations on the break-in tread. First part of the trip was fairly flat. Kept my speed and RPMs low, not over 50mph / under 3000 rpm, the first 200 miles. Did not have any problems. First oil change is 10k (had this done at 8700). First service at 5k is only a tire rotation and fluid check.
