Were they MSRP? Was my flight paid for or gas covered and how does that work for a trade in? Appreciate the reply though :boink:

And this year Toyota is paying dealers to take VSSP. Nobody in GA would take it on a Tacoma anyways.

Talked to this dude in the parking lot that was driving a 2021 4Runner Trail. I was driving my 2016 4Runner Trail Premium.

He was acting like it was better than a Pro.

I didn’t have the heart to inform him where he was at in the pecking order.

Out of curiosity, how many people have placed an order and got nowhere with a certain dealership and then placed an order with another with better results? I walked into my dealership yesterday and talked to both the salesmen I had worked with in late April/early May… none the less was told I’d hear from them today and got absolutely nothing. Meanwhile got an email from a different dealer (where I test drove a MT truck) saying they wanted to set up a call with me to see if there was anything they could do. SUPER frustrating not hearing from the dealer I placed an order with when they said I would hear from them, and then hearing from a different dealer!? Thinking about getting my deposit back, however. If I had two dealers trying to allocate my specific build, it might be the fastest way, correct? I’m close to four months of waiting and still no allocation. Pretty irritated at this point.

When I was at my dealer I think the sales manager thought I was getting impatient enough to ask for my deposit back. They were good with it because they knew that they could then sell my build for over MSRP and make more money. I managed to get mine for MSRP. Before you pull your deposit check to make sure you are not going to get hosed in to paying more for the same build. These guys all know that Tacos are hot and aren't afraid to do what they have to to get their profits up. Like I said, my salesman told me I got in just in time t get a '21 and only pay MSRP.

If the deposit is refundable, may as well start working with other dealers at this point.

To find my Manual TRD OR recently I had to speak to majority of the dealers in the South East region and I've placed a few deposits with various dealers.

I Am in Alabama, Tacoma was made in Mexico. I Ordered and put a 1K deposit down on a new Tacoma on 7/2/21 got temp vin at same time. The temp vin quit working on 8/9 dealer still has not got the actual vin shows a eta at dealer of 9/2 and will arrive at the processing facility on 8/27. Dealer Says not uncommon to not get actual vin until loaded on train, or until it gets to the processing facility. Is this true? Feel like they are pulling my leg somewhat.

For what it's worth, I'm getting similar information from my dealer. Similar ETA, but no actual VIN yet.

All good. This was our purchase schedule, after notification of allotment, which was a surpise to us, we were there ordering a '22. So we did this :

June 1. Deposit $2500.00, 2021 TRD 4X4 Tacoma OR, with several options.
" 10. Received temp VIN, sales rep very attentive.
" 23. Rep called, said will be getting actual VIN soon, build date, 7/16.

July 12. Rep called, build date moved up, will be in touch soon.
" 14. Rep called, said build date, 7/22, here is the actual VIN.
    " 29. Rep called, said will be at dealer 8/12 - 8/16.
Aug 13. Rep called, said it is in. Be ready at 3:00 PM.

We had a trade, '18 4Runner 4X4, 32K on odo. Dealer gave us
$766.72 more then we paid for it 4/18. It was like new.

Congrats on getting your build! Pretty reasonable wait time as well.

I've been creeping this particular thread for awhile now, figured it was time for me to share my saga.

June 2nd 2021: Placed my order for a 21 TRD Offroad in Voodoo blue. 6spd, TRD lift kit, grill, technology package with sunroof. $1000 down.
June 30th: called the dealer, they haven't heard anything yet, told me there were 3 other people with orders for manuals that were waiting.
July 8th: stopped by the dealer, they haven't heard anything.
July 15th: received a call from the dealer saying that they have an army green one, same packages (technology, TRD lift kit...etc) but it was an auto, told them no.
July 21st: received a call from the dealer stating that it wasn't looking like the 21's were a go anymore and that I'll probably have to wait for the 22's but the Voodoo Blue is being discontinued.
August 10th: got a call from the dealer saying that I was now 1 of 6 people waiting for a manual transmission Tacoma with specific packages and they haven't heard anything from Toyota on any of them. They asked me to stop in.
August 14th: went to dealer, same story, they haven't heard anything and they'll call me on August 17th.

The plan: if the 21 falls through, will be going for the 22 TRD Pro in the lime green.

    TBC....

Yes, from the sales rep, as soon as it was scheduled, except I looked at the plate in the door jam, it says July 20, vs July 22, which was second build date advised.

Could it have been built 2 days later when the rep advised the VIN on 7/14 ?

The first build date from the rep was 7/16.

That is almost a week before it was to go to production on 7/22.
It had to go to port for more option installs.
3 miles on the odo when we picked it up.

I had a 2016 SR5 that my company bought from me because I needed a company vehicle. Early this year, my torque converter took a dump, which led to tranny issues. I told my boss to trade the 2016 in while the value was still high.
He ordered me a Voodoo Blue 2021 XP, and it took about 3 1/2 months to come in.

Update from dealer yesterday (August 16, 2021): Scheduled build date is now between September 8, 2021 - September 15, 2021.

Factory ~4-5 weeks behind schedule? (original scheduled build date was week of August 22) Anyone having similar news?

@SCUfan117 mine was scheduled for week of 8/2 when allocated. Ended up being a week later. Doubt they've fallen an additional 3-4wks behind in the span of a week.

Ya, I'm thinking that the Dealer might be adding a few weeks to that estimate in case of any other delays. I'm hoping it gets built by the end of August or first week of September.
