Wow man, they gave me no time frame from the start.. I was following this thread to guage how long I was going to have to wait.. the frustration is real.. my mexican built, full msrp minus delivery/setup cost Tacoma is going to take around 6 months+ to be built.. Im sick of throwing money at my current truck which isnt going to bring in anything when I sell it and gets 14 mpg if i’m lucky.. grrr

went to search for a 4runner imstead and sr5 4runners with 4x4 are going for 46 out the door.. that’s the cheapest one within a 200 mile radius that isn’t that single stage white..

That’s lame they didn’t tell you an expected timeline. My dealership let me know upfront it was gonna be a looong time until I see my truck. I put my payment down in March and they told me roughly September. But my name didn’t show up on the last allocation so they moved me to a 22 whenever that will be. I’m assuming you’re going to be in the same boat as me

I guess the silver lining is it will surely be a 2022. Did you order an auto or manual?

Double cab long bed sport auto. I think the thing hindering me is the long bed

Ok, yeah I got short bed sport 6-speed with a bunch of options… im not sure what to do here. Guess just keep waiting. The ones that pop up once in awhile at the dealer are loaded with expensive options I don’t want.

If you do not get an allocation you have nothing but a wish. You do not get to order a Tacoma. You can only tweak what a dealer already has allocated to them. Your best bet is to keep shopping dealers until one has an allocation that meets your desired drivetrain and then tweak things like color and tonneau. You simply cannot order your truck. Without accepting that this is the procedure, you are just gambling on what your given dealer will have allocated to it.

You call any Toyota dealer that you are willing to travel to and ask them if they have any short bed sports with a 6 speed currently allocated to them, no matter what color and options. If yes, ask if you can tweak the color and other options, if no, give them your name and number in case one is allocated to them next time, and move on to the next dealer. I was looking for an OR DCSB 6 MT with premium and advanced technology packages in Barcelona Red Metallic. They had one already allocated to them in silver. They asked for a color change to BRM and when it “took” they put in for a factory tonneau. When that “took”
I put down my deposit and that particular Tacoma was deemed sold to me. There was no question about the dealer receiving it, as it was allocated to it. There was no wishing. I got it 11 weeks later. If the dealer told me they did not have such an allocation and would wait for one, or look for one, I would have moved on to the next dealer until I found it at a decent price. Given, this was last September - December, but if my dealer did not already have the OR DCSB 6MT allocated to it and I did not move on, I may very well still be waiting.

I put down a deposit on 5/1 for a trd sport DC 6mt with some options in army green… have an appointment to talk to another dealer in my area this sat. 8/21 because I haven’t got any info from my first dealer. I am also not sure if I should tell the second dealer that I already have an order in or not.

I can confirm that no one is jerking you around about the wait. My buddy is the GM and I’ve been waiting months. Build date for mine is supposed to be tomorrow. We’ll see. Heard some bad news this week…

If you do not get an allocation you have nothing but a wish. (Barrister comment)

Barrister got it right, for me that is. I have posted before, our experience with a new Tacoma, and may repeat my words here.
We were at the dealer, checking off options on a new MG '22 OR-TRD-4X4, etc. When we made the appt., we only wanted an experienced rep that had knowledge, no wanna be's.
During our discussion, he made one trip to the office. Came back with a sheet. Now I do not believe this was planned. He said, look at this, it is almost exactly what you are ordering on the '22. They just received an allotment.
We have purchased many new 4R's. and an allotment was new to us. I was allowed to tweak the option list, which would have to have approval from the factory, it was approved later on.
I quickly gave them $2500.00, and initialed the order sheet. Looked like it was a matter of coincidence ? Didn't care, he said this is yours. The rep followed thru with updates on temp VIN, etc. The only option I did not check off in the beginning, was LED headlights. Factory would not add it, too late. The whole process from beginning to end was close to 11 weeks.
They gave us more for our like new '18 4R then what we paid 4/18, + the Military $500.00.
We were at the right place at the right time. First app't. June 1. Build date: July 22. Delivery to dealer: August 12.

Temp vin stopped working along with the spec sheet link on 8/11. Got the permanent vin this morning via email with a statement saying it’s on the production line. Build date was listed as 8/2 originally. :fingerscrossed:

The same thing happened to me, I put in my order 5/7, and waiting 12 weeks with no info. I called a different dealership and they had one allocated to them. Called the first dealership, got my deposit back and moved forward with the second dealership.

Just talked to my toyota guy (inventory manager). He reiterated that that Toyota North America is sharply cutting production this month by about 40%. They even pulled cars from his allocation to redirect elsewhere, for undisclosed reasons. My build date was today and is now being pushed to tomorrow. He said, "I'm 90% sure you'll still have the truck."

Today was my rescheduled build date, and my temp VIN stopped working today. I emailed the dealership, and they confirmed that it was on the production line, and gave me the permanent VIN. They are scheduled to receive the truck the week of September 17th.

An interesting point, she said one of the employees came in yesterday and said Toyota had put a halt on ALL production, but they didn't have any other information than that. But then my truck showed up in production today. She also said the estimated delivery date was just an estimate, because those change a lot.

Location: Ohio Valley Region (East Tennessee)
    Ordered: TRD Offroad Access Cab
    Order date: May 27
    Allocation date: July 7
    Original Build date: August 16
    Rescheduled Build date: August 19
    Actual Build date: August 19
    Scheduled delivery date: September 17-22

Nice! My truck, according to the temp VIN, is suppose to be built next week but the dealer has been emailing me and told me it would be built between September 8-15. I'm hoping the factory isn't that far behind and that my temp VIN stops working sometime next week or the week after.

I wonder if there's a COVID outbreak in the Texas or Mexico factories or something? Rumors about factory shutdowns?
