What my dealer did is offer a trade in on my truck only once it was clear I was
Interested in a specific truck they had allocated to my dealership. They said they were not willing to discuss trade values if they didn’t have a truck incoming that I would be interested in because they feel the market is too crazy for used cars right now to be tied to a trade value if they didn’t have an idea of when the deal would actually happen. It worked out for me, my truck was built on 2/14, and should arrive between the end of march beginning of April. They didn’t care that I’ll continue to use my current truck as a daily driver.

My dealer said they would hold the trade in value for 6 months, given we stay under certain mileage and similar condition when they appraised the trade. I'm at month 4 now with the same old, "no update" on when the truck might come.

    Very cool!

I check Toyota's online inventory about once a week and am seeing Pros showing up then disappearing. Also saw my first few green ones this week.

Ok now I have a little hope mine will be here soon. Mine was built on 1/28, and I'm in St. Louis. I thought I read you were in NJ, so the train should pass through here first. Hoping to get this week because my CU special financing deal expires on 2/28.

I'm in KC and I believe mine was taken off the train yesterday. It was built on 1/24 but sat for awhile. No idea what the route is, but if yours is on the same train, I'd bet it's in your area now.

I put a deposit on one in December, I was told 4-6 months at that point. I'm in VA.

Sheehy in Fredericksburg and McGeorge in Richmond do not mark up. Sheehy requires $500 deposit, McGeorge $1000. Both refundable.

I asked if I could have a courtesy drop along the way as GM is doing ( my dads a car hauler and theyre doing this for tahoes, escalade and the vet) and they said its going by rail to Kansas City then being picked up by truck to deliver to dealer.

Good luck, looking for the same truck, except I DGAF what packages it comes with. Put down a deposit with a dealer w/ a 2k markup. Not expecting success for a long while. Found one in ID but they only sell in state. Bummer.

The rail system drops off vehicles approximately every 500 miles so they do not have to transport by truck more than 250 miles. By mile, it is cheaper for them to transport via rail.

Are you saying that dealer didn’t want to give you a potential trade value for your current truck, because your new truck wasn’t showing up for some months yet, and they were worried that by the time it showed up the used market might go down by then?

That wouldn’t be unheard of. Don’t let them fool you. Dealers are not hurting as much as they say they are. Most of the manufacturers made record profits last year. It’s their customers that are getting hurt.

My dealer did give a trade in price and it’s in writing, but only because I purchased (put a deposit) on a truck they already had allocated. So they knew the build date and estimated arrival date. They wouldn’t give a trade value on a deal for any truck they didn’t have an allocation. When I first started looking I was considering the manual trdor, but they didn’t have an allocation for one, nor any idea when they could get one. If we went that route they said they would not give a value until they knew they could get that model in, and an approximate date of when it would arrive.

Exactly. They are selling the same amount of cars they usually do, they're just a few months behind. I know they're losing out on the "let's see what's on the lot" customers... but I said something to my sales guy along the lines of "you guys are selling the same amount of cars, they're just 3 months behind" and he said yes. Which is true, they are selling the same, if not more, they're just not on the lot, they're on order.
