  3. 3. Make a considerable compromise in color or equipment to get a Tacoma at all?

    40 vote(s)
    11.9%
  4. 4. Get super lucky with an inbound vehicle or cancellation in a relatively short timeframe?

    96 vote(s)

Nope, I had dealers doing this for vehicles that were "In Transit". Some would just call it a "market adjustment fee" and others were "offering" a vehicle protection plan where they "apply a protective finish to the interior and exterior of the vehicle" and charge you 4500 for it.

The one I saw was on the lot and available. I think they are fishing to see what they can get from the impatient buyers not willing to wait for anything. They wouldn't be asking that much above sticker if people weren't paying it. I guess it's not price gouging if it's a non necessity but I still think Toyota should drop the hammer on these dealers.

As my ETA has gotten closer (4/4-4/10), my refreshing of VSPEC has become compulsive. Not sure if it even updates on weekend yet I check like once an hour now.

As far as the app mileage updates, are we pretty sure that only really refreshes when the truck moves? From what I understand that syncing happens when the truck is turned off. And so no refresh would indicate it's in a rail car somewhere still, or something like that.

^^This- look, I am all for businesses taking the extra step to ensure their survival in these trying times, but some of these dealers are just out of hand. Here is a funny story that literally happened to me Friday; Here is a bit of the backstory to provide context, So I live in Albuquerque New Mexico, which is a relatively small city. We have 3 Toyota Dealerships in the area including Santa Fe. In light of current circumstances, I cast the new car net to all three in hopes of attaining a Double Cab off-road 4X4 in either Lunar Rock, Army Green, or White. After roughly two months of waiting for allocations, I was able to reserve a White one that met 95% of my desires (was really hoping for army or lunar) at an MSRP of 40,346. Shortly after making the reservation, the second dealership I contacted called me on the phone asking if I would be interested in a trade that just come in, It was a 2021 TRD OR DBLC with a few add-ons, but nothing crazy, 541 miles and spec'd almost identical to my reservation, I informed him that most likely I would not be interested as the used prices were astronomical and would not make sense monetarily given the current situation. He responded that they would work me a great deal that would make sense and to hang on while he talked to his manager, upon return he informed me the selling price of the truck was to be 59,900! Which I replied, uh, no. He insisted it was a better deal because the warranty on the used model was better and I would not have to wait 8 weeks to get it. I just laughed at him and said there is no way I would ever pay that much for a used OR and that I am perfectly content with waiting for my allocation to arrive. I don't know which is more insane, the attempt to justify those prices or the sad fact that the truck will probably sell close to that price....

I've noticed a disturbing trend over the the past week regarding eta's. My truck's eta has changed from 4/2 - 4/4 to 4/5 - 4/7 and this morning to 4/8 - 4/10. Has anyone else experienced this trend and how long does it continue before a truck shows up at the dealer's?

    Thanks,

    Wisccoma

I only just started watching mine yesterday, but it still matches what the dealership told me on Thursday, expected 4/14 - 4/19. Hoping there's no delays.

Does anyone have a temporary vin showing a build week of 13 able to see that their truck has actually been built and now has a permanent vin? I'm thinking it takes a couple of days for the temp vin to fall off the v-spec screen. Actually, hoping it takes a day or two...

Yes, most likely the Firestone LE2's. That's what my 2020 Sport came with. Was a nice summer highway/city tire. However, after a year I had Toyo Open Country A/T III installed for snow and back roads.

My truck with week 10 build-date only dropped off of VSPEC on the following Tuesday. Maybe 3 days later, found the permanent VIN on the dealer's site.

Yeah that's what I'm worried, I don't really do OFF-ROAD but I need snow traction, not hoping for doing winter tires. Hoping I can get by on the stock tires and then throw some Cooper discoverer at3 on, they were perfect on my explorer.

How easy was Bighorn to with your order? They're the closest dealer to me and they did an instrument panel switch that went pretty smoothly. Seems like a good shop but I don't know how the sales dept is to deal with.

Looks like we have another NH dealership to stay clear of. Toyota of Nashua
3 times now I’ve seen a truck listed on their website (3 different trucks the last 3 months)
Every time I contact them about the truck I get the same answers. “Oh, I just checked and that trucks sold” but we have others, when can you come in…
It’s an obvious bait and switch, no question.
I know the market, I know it happens but this is to extreme and to coincidental.
You inquire about a premium vehicle they just sold but we have a basic vehicle instead.
Once? Twice? Three times? The same truck or very close to it? I don’t think so…

As annoying as it sounds that might actually be your best bet. I was having the same issues and got lucky on 1 that someone pulled their deposit from. It sounds like dealers are taking deposits on their allocated vehicles before they even hit the websites, and from what I can gather (someone please correct me on this one) they may not show up on the website until the vehicle is actually being assembled, but in many cases long after a deposit has already been made.
