Well, dealer just called and said the truck is on its way. Should be here less than a week.

My truck with ETA 4/09 - 4/14 had the doors unlocked this morning. The app is now showing 2 miles on the odo (up from 1), and the tires are now 33 all around. Haven’t had a chance to check the VSPEC yet, but hoping it was taken off the train!

In my impatience, every once in a while I check to see what local used Tacomas are available. I also drive right be a Carmax every day and see several Tacomas on the lot. I looked up the prices and I cannot believe how high they are. I guess at the end of the day someone might be willing to pay it and I would love to meet that person. The worst example I found was a 2021 DCSB SR (V6, 4x4) 100% stock with 8k miles for $41k. Are people actually paying those prices? My 2022 SR I have on order is way below the price of this one. I just don't get it.

The 2019 Off Road I test drove Because they didn’t have any new ones in stock to test drive. Had 41k miles. They were asking $39,000. It’s still for sale. That was back in January.

The dealer I'm buying my OR from has a 2019 DCSB SR5 (4x4, V6) for sale with ~30k miles, listed for $40k. Why someone'd pay that besides needing one NOW is beyond me.

Yeah, that is the only reason I could figure out. You could rent a car for a few months and still pay less for a new truck.

Next time I buy a truck I think I'm going to go straight to the sales manager or just bite the bullet and go to the next nearest dealer (2 hour drive) because the way my guy talks sounds like they never actually put in an allocation since January. Just says that "still don't have one in..."
I'm like, dude, if you had put the request in and got it approved you would be saying something different than "still nothing", like "Here is the number, track it yourself".

At any rate, I've opened my "deposit" range to be
Any fully loaded TRD Sport that isn't in white or red,
Any fully loaded TRD Off-Road that isn't in white or red,
Any Limited that isn't in white or red.

Sucks that I won't be getting exactly what I want, but between a rep that doesn't seem to be working with me and the general issues with getting orders fulfilled it's what I got to do.

Yesterday I saw a 2021 Limited Nightshade edition with 6,000 miles, they wanted ~$48k for it. The thing that got me was the dealership didn't even bother to clean the mud off the truck before putting it up. Seems like they know they can half-try and it'll still sell.

Just heard back that my "late April" allocation has been bumped to "mid May".... guess I'll see how long this drags out. Put a deposit down early March.

No rear locking diff is a dealbreaker for me. Only reason why I didn't go for the Sport.

I waited for 3 months for the dealer I started with to get me a TRD OR, DCSB, AG, 6MT with basically whatever options (I had sent in exactly what I wanted, but I'm not picky), and they made zero progress besides telling me a few weeks ago there was a red one being built that they might be able to change to green (which didn't happen). I'm still leaving that option open, as I'm fine with eating my deposit on the white one if they still come through.

Couldn't find an Army Green or Lunar Rock manual truck anywhere, and got lucky as hell with my white one which was my third color choice. I was worried I wasn't going to be able to get a manual, so I just jumped on what I could get.

My first tacoma was MGM. I loved the color, but wanted something different this time around.

I put a deposit down for an Army Green, OR MT back in November and I'm still hearing from my salesperson, "sorry man, they still haven't allocated us the truck you want."

After reading some of the posts - I'm confused how the process works (I'm in NC).

Do the dealerships just wait and see for a truck from Toyota that matches the specs of what a customer wants?

Or, does the dealership need to tell Toyota that this is the truck they want?

Really wish I put down multiple deposits at multiple dealers in hindsight.

On my way home from work yesterday, a car carrier was going in the other direction (towards dealer) with a truck that matches the one I am waiting on; haven't heard from dealership yet, but it is showing on their website, same VIN. Fingers crossed that it is only a matter of time. This world we live in today is absolutely ridiculous. Would have never dreamed of so many people all in the same boat trying to obtain new vehicles. Good Luck all, hope everything works out for those waiting!

It sounds almost like the dealership tells Toyota what they want, and if a (for example) TRD OR AG 6MT gets made and allocated to the dealer, that customers options may make it onto it.

Or Toyota just allocates whatever they want with no regard to demand.

I also should've put in multiple deposits back when I ordered mine in December.

From what I've read and videos on YT, they CAN do the latter and that's what leads to people finding their temp VIN and so on.
But seems like some dealers, including my local one, do the former which isn't really helpful.

I have 3 deposits down for the build you described. I have been told two different scenarios of how it works.

First is that Toyota makes whatever the hell they want with whatever packages and options they want. They then just start shooting them out to different dealers. If this dealer sells more trucks than this they may get allocated more of these random truck builds. If one comes to that dealer that matches what you told them, great, you got a truck. Otherwise you'll wait and wait. Looking for a Manual with a certain color, good luck. This dealer told me 9 months for AG OR MT.

Second thing I have been told is that some dealers are lazy and follow the practice above. They get what they get and know they will sell it so what do they care. This sales person told me they are a high volume dealer with 5 sales managers. This allows them the time and energy to reach out to Toyota and put in requests for specific builds. He asked me what I wanted all the way down to floor mats and mud guards. This dealer told me they estimate to get allocation, build and deliver in 3 months.

Which dealer is right? Who the hell knows. But there are a lot of people on here that get what they want FAST and others that seem to wait forever and talk of giving up. Dealer 2 also is the only dealer of my 3 that has had 3 manuals come through their inventory in the past month. Based on this evidence I am guessing that dealer 2 is more in line with what actually happens. I'm guessing it depends on how much effort the dealer wants to put out to get the customer what they want.
