New member here . . . I live in Guadalajara, ordered a Sport 4x4 from the dealer here 30 days ago and was quoted 2-4 months. I haven't inquired for any updates from the dealer yet, I figured I'll wait another 2-3 weeks to check in. The thing is being made in Queretaro I'm sure so I'm hoping for the 2-3 month range and not 4.

It's my understanding that options are more the determining factor of whether delayed week 12+ Tacomas have been built yet. A supplier issue (I'm guessing is a parts shortage), which seems to be related to technology packages, has pushed those builds back...Toyota cut production by 20% to allow the supplier to catch up.

Over the past couple weeks, I've seen people with week 12-14 builds re-scheduled for the week or April 25...so I'm guessing that 20% of production that was cut is scheduled for to ramp up the late next week, and the week of April 25. I was scheduled for week 14, and I'm now scheduled for April 25. As with anything though, we shall see.

If you find a dealer that full of sh*t, just walk away. I wasn't desperate, and could wait, so I walked away from multiple dealerships before I found one that wasn't pulling any BS.

One of my favorites was the dealer who told me in early-December they couldn't (wouldn't) take a deposit on an inbound TRD Off-Road DCSB that would be arriving a few days after Christmas. It wasn't spoken for and had everything I wanted. I walked in ready to put a deposit down to hold it. Instead, they told me if I wanted it, I would have to sign all the paperwork to purchase it sight unseen...but they would delay the first loan payment out 45 days instead of the usual 30 (how nice of them). When I asked what would happen if the car was damaged in transit, or if I needed to take out insurance on a vehicle I didn't even have keys to, the sales manager gave me a bewildered look and couldn't give me a straight answer. I got up and walked out.

Yeah...pretty much believed it was BS from the get go. I called the dealer where I've got my deposit in on my Tacoma TRD and he told me that it's a bunch of hooey. (he said it in more colorful language...lol). Gonna call the other dealer that told me that tale tomorrow and basically tell him that if they don't accept the fact that I want to go through my credit union then they can refund our deposit and kick rocks (my wife was not pleased when she got home and I told her about it...she used more colorful language than my Tacoma TRD dealer). The reason we went with a different dealer than the one that I'm getting the truck through is that the allocation for the RAV4 will be here in 8 days from today (whereas, the dealer where I've got my truck deposit didn't even have an ETA date). I appreciate the replies and responses!

My dealer is making me go through them for financing. No big deal. The day I drive the truck home I'll call up my bank and have them buy out the loan and then i'll do my loan through them. Not the end of the world... and it isn't the first time I've done this.

just curious because I have never needed to do this, but would that not be considered a used auto loan at that point? Higher interest rate?

Nope, your bank see's any vehicle of this year or the prior year as new so you will be able to secure a interest rate of a new vehicle. Which is why it is idiotic for Toyota dealers to force their financing... And when I pick my taco up I will let them know that I will be having my bank buy out the loan the next day (or month for the first loan to be finalized) just to show them how stupid they are.

Good to know. I will say I was pre approved by my credit union. Sales rep told me that I was free to finance through anyone I wished but it was very rare for them to not beat out other lenders. I went back and the loan officer confirmed that is a lot of cases they will carry the loan for the dealer and I could choose to sign at the dealership or at the credit union based on what ever deal was best. I guess the dealers have some wiggle room where they can compete and still get a little kick back from Toyota or something. I am already approved at prime rate so if the dealer can beat that then awesome.

Do you think the 20% cut was only temporary? Two of the dealers I spoke to seemed to think the 20% cut was for the rest of the year…but they usually don’t know what they’re talking about.

My build eta was just updated from 5/13 to 5/3. Still showing "A" in VSPEC and N/A for miles in the app. My sales rep also said late June delivery last I spoke with him. I am beyond confused.

Just got a text from my dealership saying delivery date of 5/28-6/7. They didn't update me that it was being built or anything. Anyone else have a weird experience like that?
