Mine's headed to CT, and here's my experience so far:

    - Built 4/1ish in Guanajuato (spelling might be off).
    - Sat around the factory yards for a couple weeks.
    - Loaded onto a train/truck and shipped to Veracruz.
    - Sat around in another yard before eventually being loaded onto a ship on 4/26.
    - Ship arrived in Newark on 4/30.

I'm thinking they go by rail or on a boat up the east coast. One of the Tacoma assembly plants is almost smack in the middle of Mexico, so boat or rail would work.

Thinking of putting down a deposit for a 2023, just in case. I wonder if I'd be the first one at my dealer..

    Itz JDM tyte, yo!
I "ordered" during last January and am still waiting on an allocation. The dealer is hopeful for mid-May.

The truck I wanted is a 6MT TRDOR DCSB. Hopefully Lunar Rock, but I'm also open to Silver.

Take my research, assumptions and observations with a grain of salt...

The following article, while a bit dated, details Toyota's logistical plan for the plant that opened in Guanajuato (outside of Mexico City) after they moved most of the North American manufacturing of this model to Mexico. I've read that TRD Pros are still made in Japan. Not sure about how accurate that is still. The article also briefly mentions the Baja California plant's logistics and their use of rail and/or short-sea shipping to San Diego, CA.

    https://www.freightwaves.com/news/toyota-details-logistics-plan-for-tacoma-plant-in-guanajuato

I assume depending on trim level and version and/or final delivery destination, Toyota will build your truck at one plant or the other.

If your truck was built in the Guanajuato plant and your detailer was correct on the "waiting to get on a boat" status, along with the final destination being NE US, the truck will likely ship out of the port of Veracruz, Mexico via roll on/roll off vehicle carrier into Newark, NJ. After that, you're at the mercy of trucking logistics and availability before ultimately getting to your dealership.

If you really want to go down the rabbit hole, you can use something like the following website/app to see what ships are in and out of the port of Veracruz, looking for vehicle carriers bound for the US east cost (again, likely Newark specifically from what I've read). If you want to go a step further than that, you can google the ship names you identify and search for previous manifest lists that may or may not be available online. You might be able to find a ship that routinely carries Toyota Tacomas via the manifest info and have a reasonable idea of what ship or ships might be carrying your truck based on timing of build and delivery ETA. Finally, you can track these ships' movements and destination ETAs via the website/app.

    https://www.marinetraffic.com/

Disclaimer: I have absolutely zero background in the logistics field. Just providing details on my own research. I may or may not be a little too eager about the status and delivery of my new truck....

WoW, I just assumed the ship would cross the gulf to Texas or Florida…I didn’t even think of how it would cross over and around Florida then up the coast…
    It makes perfect sense.
What’s really messed up is the sitting around in between deliveries. Truck to truck boat to truck etc…
The ride is long enough alone. It’s the delays in between that screws it all up.
Im hoping I see it before June.

Looks like Toyota is offering 2.75% on 2022 Tacoma’s! I plan to look into this! Hopefully my trade will pay for the majority of my new Tacoma but a good APR never hurts!

That is substantially better than my local dealer has been advertising! Great rates on everything but the Tacos and Tundras. I'll have to ask!

my guess, with somewhat of a logistics background is that its not much different than sending packages there are many possible routes that the different carriers use and it all depends on what's most cost effective at the time. there is no simple answer to this question.

My salesperson just let me know my truck has been built. Now it’s it wait for delivery. He’s estimating about 2-3 weeks, which sound in line with everyone here.

I put deposit down on a 2022 Tacoma TRD pro in Feb. ETA of March 28. It changed a couple of time to April. Now it has changed to June 10. Dealer said it is sitting at port with a inspection hold. Anyone else in the same boat as me?

I’m in Texas. Pretty close to Mexico so maybe that will help.

4 days from the gulfs south west coast, across the gulf, around the horn of FLA and north to NJ.
That’s pretty quick….why it sits on either end for weeks at a time is ridiculous
