I'm in a suburb on NYC on Long Island. So I guess it looks like it's on the rails until the last leg of the trip up here in the NE. Thanks

Do you have a temp or permanent VIN?

if you've allocated, I assume you got a VIN because that's what allocation means, the dealer has a VIN whether it's temp or permanent

The longer I am going without a truck (going on week 18), the more I am realizing I don't "need" one as much as I thought. Not sure I will accept the Tacoma when (if) it eventually arrives. Dealer has no indication of any possible delivery dates.
Small trailer on the Jeep handles the needs for anything that won't fit into one of our vehicles.
Still would be nice to get one, eventually.

couple months back when I was looking (manual army green) I just called every dealer around me (vancouver BC) and while many had _a_ truck it was the truck I wanted but on the 12th I found one with an upcoming unspoken for army green manual a ferry trip away and 2 weeks later I drove it off the lot. Took some doing and getting to the right person at each dealer but was worth the trip to get one so fast.

    I agree with this.

I was utilizing the kissmygrits link, but found that every truck that met my requirements was presold. Mainly because the VIN are all permanent and likely that other people looking are on a list at those respective dealers and get lead on allocation.

I kept a spreadsheet of all the dealers and salesperson information and some notes and where I had placed a refundable deposit.

Once I started calling East towards Albuquerque and El Paso, I figured, why not Denver and I got lucky. Called the dealer and explained what I was looking for and that yes, it's a unicorn, but I'm patient. He called me back to let me know he had one allocation which was my third color option and I wasted no time putting my name on it.

I'm checking the kissmygrits link every day because I'm curious to know how long it takes for my VIN to show up on that list to determine whether it's useful or not. I might be using it incorrectly.

Mileage showed up in the app and tire pressures. That’s new. Did we ever determine when we think that happens? Rail? Truck? Port? Leaving factory?

I visited my local Toyota to get a oil change on my wife’s car and the only truck on the lot was a white SR5 2wd long bed and I bought it. Not what I wanted but it’s growing on me. Why did I buy it if it wasn’t what I wanted? what I really wanted would have Been en 4-5k more.

@Rod03 Would you mind checking mine again? Last update I have is that it's on a train headed towards Albuquerque from San Bernardino as of 24 April, but haven't heard anything new since. Appreciate it!

Sorry to hear but do you at least know where your Tacoma is or the status?

Six weeks ago, I was bitten by the Tacoma bug. Started looking and calling DOZENS of dealers here in PA. Spoke with dealers as far away as Florida and was getting nowhere. 2 1/2 weeks ago, a salesman called me from a dealership an hour away and told me they have exactly what I was inquiring about coming in and it was going to be 2-4 weeks. I was provided with a Vspec sheet listing a stock number and VIN and I gave them $1,000 non-refundable deposit and have been waiting. Salesman called on 05/06 and said it's on the rail system from San Diego and his best guess was 2 more weeks. I went on this dealer's website this evening and found another Tacoma listed for sale and "In Transit" with the same VIN, but different stock number, as the vehicle I'm supposedly buying. The last six of the VIN are numbers, which allegedly means it's not a temp. I called the salesman and expressed my concern and he gave me a story about the Russians hacking the Toyota site and messing up VINs. The more I think about his explanation, the funnier it is. Thoughts?

When people say their temp VINs quit working, what does that mean? I have my temp VIN entered into the Toyota app... Will it just quit displaying my ordered vehicle? Thx

Welcome aboard - that is what I was seeking except only in LR. Many dealers told me I was chasing a unicorn, but I found one from a cancelled pre-order that I inquired with previously. A little word of advice - never leave all your eggs in one basket (have deposits in with multiple dealers).

Did you sign a bill of sale of some sort along with the deposit that also shows the VIN and stock #? I think the Russians have bigger concerns than hacking a Toyota site right now

I have read from several different post that this color just doesn't show its true beauty through photos and holy crap, this thing pops, like Velencia red!!!!! Only thing that I'm not in love with so far is the baseball sized gear shift knob. definitely the first thing I will be changing. Not sure if its because its a manual but this thing is pretty impressive with the top end power. My 05 had more low end torque but this thing rips pretty good in the higher revs.

I wonder what trim level of Tacoma is the most popular? I just took delivery of my SR5 on friday, and from deposit to delivery took about 12 weeks. I see huge variations in wait times and was wondering what trim levels take the longest to deliver. Anyone have any insights on this?

    LMAO at your salesperson.

it’s your car. You’ve already paid the deposit. I forget what the piece of paper is called, but it has your info on it along with the truck coming in so it’s spoken for (for you).
They should have emailed you a copy of that paper including a receipt for the deposit.

so until you sign, it’s considered “pending sale”. All other processes have to go through which include being listed on the website.

I got my permanent VIN today so I’m actually looking forward to the truck being listed on the website. IMO it’s another piece of mind the truck is real lol
