Based on the build dates you guys have and status change to F, I'm hopeful my status will change from A to F in the next 1 - 2 days. My build was 5/5, got my VIN yesterday.

I'm refreshing VSPEC twice a day haha

Rod... You seem to have access to some mysterious database. Any chance you could check 3TMCZ5AN7NM498177 and put my mind at ease? Thanks in advance.

I've called dozens of dealers and found one that had an allocation for a TRD OR in my price range and that had an ETA of 5/5-5/10. My dealer does not mark up and it even says it on their website. When I was calling dealerships and most of them won't even give you pricing over the phone and want you to come in - that was a red flag for me already. I'm desperate for a truck but not desperate enough to pay over MSRP.

I second this. I dealt with a bunch of dealers in December/January. If they would only discuss price in person, they had markups well over MSRP. I learned that the hard way, the first dealer I spoke with had an unspoken-for Tacoma TRD Off-Road on their showroom floor that had everything I wanted, but wouldn't discuss price. When I went in to take a look, they had a $10k "market adjustment" on it. So when I found a dealer that wasn't doing markups and was upfront and adamant about it, AND had some allocations coming up, I put a deposit down with them. The other dealer I found in my area that was selling at MSRP (the same dealer @Ghost09 is using) couldn't promise me an allocation at the time and was further away...so as I wasn't desperate for a vehicle, and I wasn't willing to pay over MSRP, I decided to ride it out with my dealer and stopped calling around. If Toyota didn't have production delays, I would probably have taken delivery of my Tacoma over the past week or so...alas, I'm probably a still a few weeks out of taking delivery.

I was sort of stuck and becoming increasingly frustrated as I wanted a specific color TRD OR AT LED. I was OK with the $500 over MSRP... Not overjoyed, just OK. The few I had come across were already sold. Someone told me dealers in Florida were selling them at MSRP. Nope. I was amazed at how many 2WD TRDs they get in.

$500 over MSRP isn't bad at all. My concern with that is I'm judging a dealer's ethics and morals based on if they are charging over MSRP. Who knows what other shenanigans they might put you through during the sale. But that's just me and I'm sure there are people who have paid ADM and have had a good experience and vice versa.

I am concerned about driving almost 5 hours to pickup the vehicle and then having some funny business pulled on me and having to walk. I'm hoping none of that happens, I'm financing through my bank and no trade in, so I'm not sure what could be pulled on me, but still very skeptical.

So, if I think I have a good VIN, I can go the Toyota site and register as an owner and I get these updates? Or, must the sale be completed and paperwork submitted to Toyota?

It seems that anyone with a VIN number can go into the toyota app, create an account, and add the vehicle. The locking/unlocking/remote start needs verification through the multimedia display in the car. So you can't mess with the car, but you can look at Mileage, Gas bar, and Tire Pressures for now.

And on the Toyota app, I have signed up for notifications. My Apple Watch just notified me of multiple doors unlocking. When I went in to see it on my phone, the mileage went up to 1.
No changes in the V-Spec yet. It was at an F since the day after it was built.

It's hard, but the one you're looking for will come through.

I was anticipating spending 4+ months when I started my search. I got one 1 month in and as long as there are no delays with production and delivery, I should be picking up at the end of this month.

I kept a spreadsheet tracking all of the dealers I called, eliminating ones that had mark-ups, stupid "dealer add-ons" or salespeople who don't listen to what you're asking for. I expanded my search to 1,000 miles from where I live.

In the end, I had 18 dealers listed, several of them with $500 deposits. I've called them for refunds and two have gone through within a couple of days. I'm giving the rest a week to process before reaching out, but don't anticipate any problems.

I found that calling and speaking to a person was better than emailing the dealer because you'll have multiple people from the same dealer try to reach you and none of them have reading comprehension skills above 2nd-grade level. Also, I found them to be more engaged and willing to help if I lead with something like, "I'm looking for a unicorn, and I am patient..."

I'm so skeptical, I haven't pulled my other deposit since I don't have the truck in hand yet lol Hopefully I can pull it by the end of the month upon delivery.

Is there a bill of order or something that shows the OTD price? I think the best way to handle it is stay skeptical until you're driving home in your Tacoma

Called my dealer Monday morning to get an update on my Tacoma, said it finally switched to freight. I figured it would have been here today because it was at Port in Newark NJ and I live in West Virginia (less than 8 hour drive). Do the drivers typically go to multiple dealerships between port, and what is the average time once the update shows freight if anyone knows? Irregardless, I was happy to get that update!

It should turn to G when it is shipping to the dealer. If it just changed to F it makes me think it only just shipped from a port in Mexico.
