I can definitely see this happening. In just the months I've been looking at kissmygrits DB, I'm seeing an uptick in tech package and advanced tech package added on in just the last week.

I'm consolidating my experience thus far in case it helps others.

I used google maps and a spreadsheet to track my communication with dealers within a 1,000 mile radius.
The spreadsheet had basic info like a salesperson, phone number, and address. I would strike through any dealer that had markups, dealer add-ons, or poor communication. Some dealers were not selling if you were out of state.
Some dealers have a $500 refundable deposit and they keep an eye on allocation and will call you if what you're looking for comes in.
A few dealers had a non-refundable $1,000 deposit. I avoided those unless they had what I was looking for and it was not spoken for / pre-sold to someone else.
The majority of the dealers take your information, but it was implied that I had to keep calling each week for allocation status.

The kissmygrits database was not reliable for me. For every truck I found that met my requirements, it was already sold when I contacted the dealer.
I also used AutoTrader to search for new only, but after about a week, not very many showed up and a lot of vehicles that were already sold were displaying as "incoming" on the website.

4/25 - Called one of the last dealerships on my list anticipating being put on a call list. Instead, I got lucky and there was an unspoken allocation of what I was looking for with a 5/5 build date. Pay deposit and received temp VIN
5/5 - temp VIN stopped working VSPEC
5/9 - contacted dealer to receive permanent VIN
5/9 - 5/12 Noon - VSPEC shows A status, no notifications within the Toyota app
5/12 Afternoon - VPSEC shows F status, no notifications within the Toyota app

Dealer ETA at the time of my call on 4/25 was "End of May"

I have not yet seen my VIN show up on the kissmygrits DB. Now that my status changed to F, I wonder if that is when I will see my VIN show up on the DB. I've been wondering where it pulls from and what status.

I emailed my salesperson that I saw it was in F status and how excited I was to get one step closer lol I'm curious to see how he responds

Great write up but may I ask what is the kissmygrits DB and where can I find it?

Longtime lurker. First time poster. After a couple years of debating, I've finally took the first steps of purchasing my first truck. My TRDORDCSB allocation should be arriving 1st or 2nd week of June. Super excited to get this thang on the road.

Question for anyone that's picked up their truck recently - how long did you have to wait between the dealer saying your truck is ready and completing financing/driving it off the lot?

I got the call today that it's good to go, but the finance guy doesn't have a free slot until Monday. Even if I walked in with cash, can't get it until Monday.

Nearing the end of build week 19, mine is an "NT19", my temp vin VSPEC link quit working.

"Page you are looking for is not found!

Please contact dealer for more information."

Website glitch..... or a good sign I hope.

Should mean that your truck has been built. Over the next few days, you can look on the dealer's site or autotrader to try to find your permanent VIN.

I think a big part of any delays is waiting for dealer prep. These dealers are short staffed. I have a FORD motorhome that had to go in for a warranty serpentine belt replacement. Had same problem in 2021 and they replaced it while I waited. 10 months later it failed again and i had to drop it off for 3 weeks at FORD. Only thing they could do the same day was oil changes. One certified mechanic in the shop....ONE!!....the rest were just good for the most very basic maintenance. This is not at some small 3 bay dealers auto shop either. There's just not enough help to go around at all these businesses. We took a bad turn in this country but that's a different conversation.

I'm literally just waiting for the finance guy, I asked and it is 100% ready to go otherwise.

Found the below link for the Automotive Facility Guide used by many auto makers, including Toyota. My salesman told me my Taco will be coming into Jessup, MD from San Diego. Rod confirmed it was on the rail on Tuesday (Thanks Rod!). Googled the address listed in the guide to take a look at the location. You can see why some of these vehicles may get a few miles on them when they're off-loaded.

ask your dealer for the VIN.

My truck is still not listed on the dealer website. My status changed to F from A today.

Don't search your vin, it should pop up without that.
