I'm buying it thru Crestmont Toyota on rte 23. They had one allocated with everything I wanted that no one had put a deposit down on. I grabbed it and at msrp which is tough being not far from NYC. Live on Long Island. Nothing here unless you are willing to spend $5k over msrp. I'll take an hour car ride to save $5k.

Yes. Either way I'm ok with waiting. I was hoping to get it sometime before July so May or June would be fine. I'll know soon enough.

Koch 33 (Easton, PA) I assume had my name and what I was looking for in their data base, they called and said they placed an order for what I was looking for not a customer order, build date is June 6th. Asking $2000 over MSRP, they wouldn't budge off that, but finally got them to meet me at $1000 above MSRP

I looked all over within 250 miles of my home. Koch looks to be a high volume dealer that probably gets trucks allocated quickly. What's $1k on a $45k truck? Not much really. They were straight forward on their website showing the msrp then the added dealer mark up. Usually $2k-$3k over. I did everything over the phone up to this point so I wasn't ready to pay a markup yet. Just lucky I guess.

Using autotrader and putting out feelers worked for me. They emailed me about the available truck.

@Rod03 - hopefully you aren't inundated/annoyed with these requests, but can you check 3TMDZ5BN3NM131604

We should probably start a collection to buy you a few beers or cups of coffee for you time and effort.

I completely agree. If Toyota can't handle their logistics better than this, and other manufacturers can, what does that say about them? Every Nissan dealer I've checked lately has Frontiers on their lots, and not just the basic ones, every trim. I get that Frontiers have never sold as well as Tacomas, but it's not a horrible truck. The only thing holding me back is losing out on the manual. At some point, I'm going to decide it's not worth the wait.

Finally took delivery yesterday. Been eyeballing tacos since 2020 but didn't get serious (i.e. depositing) until January of 2022. Deposited with local dealer on 2/23 and was told 4-6 months. Started looking around in March via the kissmygrits sheet. Placed a couple other refundable deposits to get on some lists but ultimately found my unicorn when randomly calling dealers one day.

Must must-haves: 4x4V6 DCLB, Premium Package (Really wanted the leather + moonroof), Advanced Tech package. Lunar Rock, Celestial Silver, or Army Green. I was shopping Sport or OR. Preferred Sport since I don't really offroad and wanted the performance bump from that hood scoop. :D

    Timeline is as follows:
    • 4/20 - Placed deposit. Dealer had permanent VIN. ETA showed as 4/27-5/2. This window passed with no update to status; and the ETA fell off altogether. Status remained 'F'. I added VIN to Toyota App and saw no activity or statuses -- just the basic specs.
    • 5/2 - Alert on app indicated all doors unlocked. Shortly after, tire pressure, odometer & gas gauge appeared in app. Status remained 'F'. Rod was kind enough to check and confirm for me that this event signaled offloading from train and a shift to waiting for a truck ride to dealer. Dealer called the same day to say she would be there "sooner rather than later".
    • 5/6 - Another alert on app about all doors unlocked. Roughly an hour later, status changed to 'G'.
    • 5/7 - Dealer texted saying truck arrived the previous evening.
    • 5/12 - Picked up from dealer and drove her home. Took a few days because I had to dance around a work trip to get up there.
    IMG_2678.jpg IMG_2677.jpg

This is my first Toyota, but so far I have one tiny complaint. Wish they had shifted the volume & song skip buttons on the steering wheel 90 degrees. I'm just used to up & down for volume -- which skips songs on this thing. If that's the worst thing about it, I am a very happy camper. Very pleasant 3-hour drive back home, and heavy rain/fog gave me some great opportunities to put the LED lights to use.

Ultimately my experience was good. Dealership was Mechanicsville Toyota in Virginia. Super straightforward, open and honest from the onset. MSRP plus a mandatory ceramic coating @ $1300 which they were transparent about before I gave them any money. No other BS. I thought of the coating as a markup and was ultimately willing to pay because the vehicle ticked all my boxes; which was pretty much a first after 2 and a half months of daily searching. The others I found were all marked up $2500+ and required sacrificing the longbed.

I haven't been waiting on my Taco long, but I've finally given up on the Bronco order I've been waiting on for 8 months. The Taco has departed 4/28 to Chicago on rail. I'm hoping it doesn't leave me a disappointed as the Bronco lol
