Well, it is a sad day today as I cancelled my order for a '22/'23 Tacoma. I didn't really want to, but I also don't need a truck right now, and the only real reason I had one on order was to get a manual transmission. I really think there is a good chance the Gen 4 does not have a manual transmission option. But my hate for the Tundra redesign when it came out has morphed into excitement for the same look on the Tacoma, and my end goal in all of this is the electric pickup anyway, whenever it comes out. Sadly, I decided the manual transmission was not worth having a second vehicle I don't need right now. I had been in talks with a home builder to build a new home when the housing market blew up, and as such I ended up not going through with it while I wait for the costs of building to come down. In the meantime, I don't have a need for a truck nor a good place to actually park it, which makes having one specifically to ensure it is a manual not worth it right now. That sucks.

I did end up moving my "reservation" to the Gen 4 Tacoma. I'm not exactly excited about buying the first year of a new generation, but my ultimate goal is the electric Tacoma anyway, and whatever I buy is a stop gap. I am at the point where I would rather have the new Tundra design on a Tacoma rather than a manual, and now, if I want it, I am within the top 5 on that list since I have been waiting so long already.

But I got some interesting details from my dealer when he pushed back to make sure I really wanted to cancel it. I ordered a very specific truck from a single dealer and knew this would take a while. I had no need nor desire to compromise so I was willing to wait. even if I did not cancel it, it looks like I would be waiting a while. He has apparently been telling people they can expect to wait 10-15 months on an order.

    Ordered: November 23, 2021
    Allocated: Never

    According to the dealer:
    - I was #20 out of 119 for all Tacoma orders.
    - I was #3 on the list for a manual Tacoma.
    - I am now within the top 5 for the Gen 4 if I want it when it comes out. If not, I will probably wait a couple of years for the EV or for it to "mature".

I made the order with Mark Miller Toyota in Salt Lake City. They have been great to work with, especially Greg Butcher, who has been my salesperson. But, as one of the few dealers that aren't marking up their cars, they clearly are getting a lot of business.

This appears to be just as bad as being on the wait list for Packers tickets...

The numbers you cite above, were these your "final" numbers when cancelling? Or were they your position(s) when you put in for an allocation? I sure hope they weren't your initial numbers...

These were the numbers when I canceled the order. I have no idea what they were when I ordered as he didn't tell me, but seeing these I am pretty sure I was further down the list than I thought I was.

Do they charge a mark up? Dealers that dont have giant waiting lists we have that here in AZ at Avondale Toyota. All depends on how bad you need something.
