Sorry if this was already covered but I don’t have time to read 570 pages. I just ‘ordered’ a Tacoma (with fully refundable deposit). But I know they aren’t doing custom builds currently. So what are my chances they will get what I want? Is it still just luck of the draw my dealer gets my specs in an allocation and my deposit gives me first dibs? Or is Toyota actually attempting to match allocations to these ‘orders’?

I am very particular (specific trim, cab size, color, and packages) and patient (still driving my ‘98 Dakota). I’m just curious on how this works in today’s environment.

@Rod03 Hello good sir! Would you mind checking on my truck. I know it was waiting to be put on a rail transport. Could you possibly give me an ETA for dealer arrival if available. Many beers your way! Thank you! 3TYCZ5AN5NT090779

So if you ordered a tacoma and told dealer what you wanted and "built" it thru them, you will get what you ordered but it may take a few months. If you went to dealer, told him/her what you were lookn for and put deposit down hoping they would get one like that allocated, it could take many months being that specific. What most likely will happen is dealer will contact you if u r waiting on allocated truck with as close to as many options as u wanted and u can say ya or nay. 2023 tacomas r gonna be being ordered soon so think about that as well, your order may get turned into a 2023 if no 2022s come up for you. That may increase prices. Just stuff to think about. Depends on if u built truck or waiting on allocation. If u tell us what u did exactly, may be we can help more. Hope this helps in meantime

I’m just confused as the Toyota ‘build your own’ website still works but all dealers are saying they aren’t accepting those ‘build your own’ requests. Yet a dealers with a deposit can still put in a request for a specific configuration. That’s what I did. What I want doesn’t exist anywhere on Autotrader (TRD Sport Access Cab, V6 automatic 4WD, with the Technology Package in Army Green). Yes, I’m particular. But I also have a working truck now so I have the luxury of time. And if it turns into a 2023 then fine.

No need to be confused; the "Build your own" tool simply shows the various combinations which *might* be built by Toyota; it has nothing to do with you building something which you can order. Long story short, you put your money down on a specific build at one or more dealerships in the hopes Toyota A) builds a vehicle which meets your specs, and B) allocates said vehicle to one of the dealerships you have your deposit placed with. If you're the first on the list for your specific build, you get right of first refusal.

Like you, I am in no hurry; I've had money down on a specific build (TRD Sport DCSB, Blue Crush Metallic, 6MT, Premium Package and Advanced Tech Package) since February, and so far at least, no allocation. I'm not holding my breath for an allocation any time this year.

Thanks for the explanation. I’m also not holding my breath. Just crossing my fingers my old ‘98 Dakota keeps running. Obviously I don’t buy that often.

Anyone else have a truck stagnant at Long Beach, CA port? Could the protests have anything to do with the rail transport delay?

Toyota estimates that about 5 percent of the Tacomas built from Oct. 21, 2021, through May 28, 2022, have one or more insufficient spot welds.

Toyota is developing a fix for this flaw and will notify owners when one is available. Notification about this problem is expected to be mailed to owners in mid-September.

There are 130 trucks involved still in dealer inventory. They will not be available for sale until the recall work is completed.

That’s from a consumer reports article. So there’s 75,000 Tacoma trucks involved in the recall, is the 75K the 5% built between those dates or is it 5% of the 75K have the bad welds. Curious to know if my truck could be cleared and not effected by the recall

Saw an Army Green Sport today at Lowes, seeing one in person I think that locked it in for me. So looks like a good chance the AG Sport prem MT my 2nd dealer has earmarked for me is the one I am going to take. For the little offroad I do, the Sport is fine, and I really do like the AG, so waiting on MGM OR will just prolong a already long wait. Crossing my fingers it stays on schedule for 8/3 build and end of Aug/early Sept delivery.

I just saw an Army Green at Costco today. It also reaffirmed my resolve to be patient and get what I want.
