It looks like the LR is not happening, so we went with first option, MGM. We have an allocation with a temporary VIN. So how do I check on build progress? Dealer thinks it’ll build February 10th.

you’ll be glad you got MGM over lunar rock. Lunar rock looks really cool but the paint absolutely sucks. Mine swirls and chips with the lightest touch whereas my old MGM didn’t have a single swirl on it after a year of hard use, just proper washing techniques.

I even had my suspicions of the paint sucking ass confirmed when I went to get a quote at two places for a ceramic coating and both of the installers read the paint at 81-84microns at the thickest point and 72microns on the hood. That’s barely enough paint for a light polish. Both installers said they wouldn’t polish because they were afraid to burn through the paint and to save as much clear as possible. One even said he coated a red Tacoma and the paint reading was much thicker (I assume it was a Barcelona red). I’m almost positive the metallics are more resilient than the matte paints.

Probably the difference between single and 2 stage paint. Most metallics are 2 stage, monochromatic paints single, and pearls are 3 stage. This is my understanding. If I'm wrong, I'm wrong.

As for the build progress input that VIN in the Toyota VIN tool (search that phrase) and when it throws an error that means it’s been built.

Glad to hear your feedback on the paint, I had a red 08 that was soft, scratch when you look at it, my 21 super white was nice, didn’t scratch though I know it wasn’t thick, if I have to go with MGM. I should be happy.

Interesting. One of the reason I have planned on Lunar Rock was because i figured the paint would hold up well and be much less prone to showing swirls and chips vs MGM. Have you seen others with LR have the same complaints?

I plan on hitting mine with a light polish as soon as I get it if there are any swirls already present and then applying a ceramic coating.

That would be me, just with a manual. I've been told it's a unicorn and that I might not even see it in our region this year.

In the Lunar Rock gen 3 thread there were a couple people that seemed to complain about paint quality. I actually asked that thread about how the paint was holding up and whether it was single stage or not before I bought my lunar rock, I kinda wish I had just stuck with the MGM...it's definitely not single stage but the clear is super thin. On the bright side though, the paint hides swirls and scratches SUPER well. I would HATE to have army green and have the same effect as a black car where every little swirl shows up.

I reserved one last Thursday for about 12 hours. It was in Sheridan, Wyoming. I ended up not going with it because it had a $7K markup and I just could not justify purchasing that with such a large markup. It's likely gone now but it was a Toyota dealership in Sheridan. Sales guy was named Mark.

It's good to see that they are at least getting trucks in! I'm not sure how far down the allocation tree I am, but I placed my order with Mark Miller on Nov. 23 and haven't heard anything from them yet. I do think I ordered a less likely to receive truck and can only hope they get an allocation for it.

I’d spread your chances across a few dealers if you can. Raise the odds! Good luck!

I'm at the point where if I don't get an allocation, I will actually be okay with it. The Tacoma is actually #3 on a list of 4 things I was planning on buying in the next 5 years, and I only put down the order because I was worried about the possible new generation (I didn't like the look of the Tundra at the time) and I was worried that it would not include a MT option. But, I really kind of like how the Tundra looks now, and the electric pickup, and hopefully the next gen Tacoma, is beautiful. Also, this truck was always going to be a stop gap for me for an electric Tacoma if one ever came out, and it seems like that could be sooner than later. Overall, though, #1 was getting into a new place and there just isn't any inventory to buy or build a house in my area, so even if I get an allocation right now there is a good chance that I am going to have to park it at my parent's house because I don't have anywhere to park it other than my condo's visitor parking area, which I don't want to do.

Basically, if I get the allocation I will be extremely happy and will gladly make the purchase. If I don't, I will be sad, but it is probably better for timing, unfortunately. I honestly don't need it yet and might not for a year or two. I don't really want to work with any of the other dealers around here either, and I am currently OK with my odds, which makes me sad :(.

I posted earlier with the same attitude, if it happens great, if not oh well. Do I need a truck now, kind a sorta, my current vehicle is limping along, but its been like that since 2020 so i could do the same for another year or two. Would i like to have a vehicle i can just get in and drive and not worry about if my AAA membership is up to date, sure.

We reserved a 22 SR5 a few weeks back that is suppose to go into production and be on the lot the end of February, in the meantime I continued to check local dealers and found one that had a few SR5's and TRD's on the lot without markups. So the wife and I took the kid up there and got him a 22 double cab TRD with the longbed from Thompsons Toyota in Placerville CA for anybody looking. upload_2022-1-24_11-38-55.jpg

I'm coming up on almost two months since placing my deposit. Longo Toyota has been light on vehicles for their last two allocations per salesman. Still no idea when I'll get a truck, but im currenly 11th on their list looking for a LR truck. Specifically im looking for 7566 - TRD Sport DCLB 4x4. Wheels are falling off the 2011 Equinox I have and the piston rings are fried, but I'll just keep praying it runs until I land an allocation.

11th on the list is a long ways back especially for such a build. Are you open to any combo? For instance a SB LR, etc.? Hope it comes soon, I’m in the same boat, trying to drive as little as possible this last month has been so frustrating but have to make the car last until mine arrives
