My truck was delivered to my house today so here's the timeline:

Late March 2022 started looking for a Access Cab Sport Tacoma in Army Green with a manual. Local dealers all pretty much said "good luck with that". One did however explain the allocation process and said his small dealership was last in line.

April 26: I found a high volume dealer across the state who charged MSRP and Patty said she would do her best to get me what I was after. I put down a $1,000 deposit.

Late May: Patty snagged an allocation for the exact truck I wanted minus the LED headlights. I was cool with that.

July 26: Truck was built @ Guanajuato plant.

August 26: Truck was through with it's train ride and was waiting for a truck ride to the dealer.

September 20: Truck was finally brought to the dealership. They installed a bunch of TRD goodies and my tire upgrade.

September 23: Truck was delivered to my house on a beautiful sunny day!

This is a gorgeous truck, it's nice when something turns out to be even better than you were hoping for. But you earn that brand new Tacoma experience with the wait you have to go through to get one. Remember that when you are pulling your hair out and there is still weeks to go!

Oh man, I saw my first trail edition only a few weeks ago. Very nice. I like the wheels and the removable storage lockers.

I was quoted a wait time of 5-8 weeks after I put a deposit on my 22 Off Road and it was delivered within two weeks, maybe I got lucky

I have been waiting since Dec 30, 2021 for my 2022.
Dealer sent me offer to pay me for my '19 what I paid for it. But they couldn't get a new 22. I think they stopped looking as over time they didn't want to honor the deal they made with me. So... I got my deposit back and found a bigger dealer who has offered me a descent deal on a 22, 4D, 4x4, Long bed. They found one but keep pushing the arrival date. It is supposed to be here now in 3 weeks or less (ordered it about 2 mos ago). I very much fear they will not honor the trade value they agreed upon. In that case; deal is off. I have my 2019, but I really want that 6ft bed so I can sleep in the back comfortably with a camper top.

And here is a longer post on my full journey (3+ months) in case it helps anyone.

June: RESEARCH – decided on what I would custom order if I could (TRD Sport, Access Cab, 4WD Automatic, Army Green, LED lights, Tech Pkg); what my acceptable compromises would be (Off-Road vs Sport and Lunar Rock vs Army Green); and what other pkg/accessories I would be willing to buy if already on the truck. I recommend having this all thought out in your head before you search.

July: I called all six local dealerships, none of them had what I wanted nor were optimistic. I put down a deposit with the highest volume local dealer anyway. I watched Autotrader daily, calling every dealer nationwide that had my dream build. They were always either pre-sold, selling to locals only, or were adding $3K-$5K of in market adjustments and/or unwanted services/warranties/accessories.

August: I switched my approach and got information on recent allocations (thanks Rod03 !!!). 1st week there was only ONE within 1,000 miles and they had a $2K market adjustment for out-of-state buyers. That validated my local Kansas City dealer’s pessimism. I called nationwide with the same results. The 2nd week of this I expanded to include my two acceptable compromises, again calling nationwide. Same result again, except for ONE. They had a new allocation for an Off-Road Lunar Rock, not pre-sold, no market adjustment, and accepted out-of-state customers. They did hold their ground on one add-on and had a higher doc fee, which made the price $1K above the best possible local price (if such a thing ever existed). It also had the Premium Off-Road and Blackout packages, but I was OK with buying those. My choices were to take it, compromise on my required specs, pay thousands more, or wait until next year. I pulled the trigger, put down the deposit, and got my local deposit back. I more than made up for the extra $1K (plus plane ticket) by selling my ‘98 truck for almost 50% above KBB 3rd party value, since the used car market is crazier than the new car market right now.

September: Purchase and delivery! I was very pleased with the dealership (Ken Garff – Cheyenne, WY). Very professional, up-front, great communication, and my salesman even picked me up at the airport on his day off.
