Just came across this thread. I placed a order and $500 deposit on sept 22 for a 2023. I got nothing from my dealer except a receipt for that deposit. I didn’t realize it’s based on if the dealer has a allocation for what you ordered or not I just figured they would make what you order. Should I be checking back with my dealer after a month or so looking for news?

I would. Toyota doesn’t make what you want in current times. Your dealer will find an allocation that has your options or close to it.

Without an allocation, you won’t get a vin number until the dealer gets the allocation approved.

If you aren’t too picky and lucky, there’s some dealers that have allocations that do not have a deposit. Good luck!

The first thing I would do is go back to the dealer and figure out if the dealer already had an allocation for truck you 'ordered'. You can do that today if you'd like. That will determine what path your on. If it's already allocated, then it's already scheduled to be built and will be a shorter timeline. If not, then you're playing the waiting game which could potentially go for months before your request is matched with an allocation.

Good to know I’m going to atleast reach out to my salesman today to find that out. I’m not in any rush but would be nice to know. when you say matched to a allocation does that mean that exact spec color and everything ? Or does it mean for example the dealer has a trd off road access cab allocation but they can not get it the color they want and options?

Thanks, Rod. Coffee/beer coming your way.

My truck sitting in Veracruz for nearly a month is very frustrating. Anyone else experience this?

Toyota builds whatever they feel like building. Then they get allocated (distributed) to dealers. The dealers can request certain builds, but it doesn't mean they'll get what they request.

Your dealer could have one allocated to them that exactly fits your wants, and your $500 deposit is holding that truck for you when it arrives.

They could have taken your deposit and started hunting for what you want. They can put in a request, they can look to trade with other dealers, etc.

They could sit on your $500 and wait for something to magically appear. When you do the math on all the combinations that can be built....

It's worth finding out what situation you're in. A lot of people with very specific wants end up compromising- they take more or less, different colors, etc. If you really stick to your guns you might not ever end up with a truck. You could also expand your search, call other dealers, and use the nationwide search tool that someone here built. I tried looking at that a week or two ago out of curiosity and couldn't figure it out... so who knows.

I'm sure others can chime in with differing opinions or added information.

Basically Toyota schedules builds for whatever they darn well want to built; once they schedule specific builds they allocate some builds to some dealerships on a seemingly random basis. When your dealership gets an allocation which is close to what you're looking for your sales associate will probably reach out to you and say something like, "We have an allocation for your exact truck, but a different color", or, "We have an allocation for almost your exact truck, except no LED lighting". You then have the option of accepting that specific build, or continuing to wait for exactly what you requested.

ugh kinda a bummer lol. I don’t care about waiting I have other vehicles to drive in the meantime but sounds like it could be awhile as I don’t really see many access cabs around here most ass double cab and I’m not compromising on that def want the longer bed and the off road trim. Might be waiting awhile.. unfortunately
