Technically, it goes like this from my understanding. Keep in mind, this is me as a consumer putting together everything I have learned. This may not be perfect but I know it's close:

    1. Toyota Corporate decides what they are going to build months in advance
    2. Distributor (like Gulf States) is told ahead of time what they will be receiving from factory
    3. Distributor allocates trucks to dealers every 2 weeks. The Dealer is given a Temporary VIN and VSPEC
    4. Dealer can allocated a truck, ie reserve, for a customer once they know what they are receiving
    5. Truck gets built
    6. Truck gets loaded onto either boat or rail, which make various stops and have to wait for enough to be loaded to merit departure (ie economy of scale principle)
    7. Truck arrives at Port and given to Distributor (like GST)
    8. Port accessories installed, like side steps. They perform some tests and checks after extended journey the truck has (VIDEO EXAMPLE)
    9. Truck gets loaded up with other vehicles going to the dealer(s) in your area (again, can sit here due to Transporter needing to be loaded up full)
    10. Truck arrives to dealer, undergoes PDI, dealer add-ons, they call you for pickup!

Yeah...I made myself kinda sad by looking through the Cavalary Blue TRD Pro Owners Thread...seeing what they paid, even MSRP back then, was like low $40s...I realize that was nearly 4-5 years ago, but the fact that a Pro even MSRP could be low low $40s, and I could have basically gotten a Pro for my budget...

It's too long ago for that to be relevant, but it's a testament to both inflation and rising cost/complexity of vehicles. And I don't even think the 22's at any level have much more standard equipment than an '18 Pro...we gained what, like power seats, carplay, transmission re-tune? Huge upgrades but not groundbreaking...Just a thought I have had.

And those were hard to get, but not like now...they did hit the lot and could be bought for MSRP if you were willing to search I would presume.

Yeah Pro to Pro big changes for the better. I just mean 2018 money/spec pricing gets you a nice Sport/OR now not a Pro. My Trail would only be a few thousand off that.

But today is today, we all have trucks on the way, and it’s a good day! Hope you all hear good news soon

The other day I saw a guy I know with a 2022 TRD OR, lunar rock, 4x4, double cab. I told him I was waiting for a Army Green Sport 4x4 that I put a deposit on.. He said when he was looking he called a dealership and they said they had one coming to them and would have it in less than 2 weeks.. He put a deposit down and got it when it arrived. He wanted manual transmission but bought the auto transmission OR since MTs are harder to find. I thought my 6 week promised delivery was short, less than 2 weeks would have been awesome... He knows he was lucky to get one that quick. It was good to hear of his good luck with so many people waiting on theirs.. I put a deposit down Dec 30th and was promised a Feb 17th delivery..

This is always good reading… sometimes depressing and then elation when we see one of you getting your truck delivered! Keep posting the pics and updates that your truck showed up!

Yes you are correct. It's all relative. My first brand new Toyota was an 1992 Extra-Cab V6 5Spd 4X4. I paid $19.5K CDN. As a young man it was a lot of Money! My brand new 2020 TRD sport was 50K CDN. A lot of money too. Enjoy your new trucks!

Well I received an update today. My truck is officially "arrived at port" status. My sales person still thinks my delivery will be between 2/8-2/12. I am located in PA.

It really is a good read. Particularly when people like @j0hnstam0s have good news like he just received.

Yeah, it gives me hope that my unicorn might, at some point, be allocated.

I remember when you could buy a stock FJ manual for under $24K OTD. IIRC a true base model was like $21K, but super rare to find it without any options. Nowadays, econocars like Corollas are well into the 20k, Camrys in the 30K, and here we are with Tacomas.

Called dealer Oct. 9 to inquire about an AG TRD OR MT listed on their site. Was looking hard for a MT. He stated it was spoken for but had me hold on while he checked for allocations. Came back on line and stated he had a lunar rock TRD OR MT with premium and tech packages unspoken for (exactly what I really wanted!). Couldn’t get my credit card out fast enough and I threw down a $3000 deposit.
    Built 3rd week of October.
    Temp VIN disappeared 10/23/21
    Took delivery 12/08/21
    Love this truck!

The guy told me when he got to the dealership there were 3 people looking at and wanting to buy "his" truck. I did not ask what he payed...But with buyers on the lot ready for him to drop out they could have had a bidding war with the other 3 I think? My sales rep told me the other sales reps there all want "my" truck and it would sell the same day.

If the truck was already allocated and he paid the deposit, I think they have to honor that... or at least, I mean, I hope that they do...

Wow congratulations! So that has to be one of the last ones produced, I mean, they were shipping '22 MY trucks in December were they not? So you were looking at a used PRO they had?

Actually no, this is a 2022 TRD OR MT. I had them install the TRD lift kit and it comes with the Pro style grill so the tech sensors still work. I hated the OEM wheels and bought these wheels online.
